'Close to all the action, yet delightfully laid-back, come and bag the best of both worlds in picture-postcard Llafranc.'
Many of the citizens of Barcelona – an easy drive away along the coast - have chosen Llafranc as the preferred location for their second homes. Indeed, for a time the resort was even popular with people as diverse as Salvador Dali, Kirk Douglas and Elizabeth Taylor. So you're in very good company. And you'll instantly see the appeal when you arrive in this low-key, good looking town. A small resort, nestling quietly between the pleasant coastal towns of Tamariu and Cacllela de Palafrugell, it has a beautiful marina lined with yachts providing a serene backdrop to the town. Around the marina you'll find a cluster of excellent restaurants serving mouth-watering seafood dishes, eaten al fresco-style, of course. When you want to get on with the all-important business of lying horizontally and soaking up some rays, a gorgeous croissant-shaped slice of honey-coloured sands sweeps its way along the bright-blue seas. Lined with swishing pine trees which provide perfect shade, there's also a promenade running the length of the beach. Away from the sea, take a stroll around Llafranc's twisting streets lined with charming whitewashed houses and villas no doubt many of which are owned by those in-the-know Barcelonans! So now you know, isn't it time you discovered this Spanish hotspot?

The village sits on a picturesque sandy beach backed by a tree-lined promenade. The beach is wide and clean with coarse sand and safe swimming, sunbeds and boats can both be hired.
Llafranc offers a variety of restaurants, some independent, some within the hotels, which vary from reasonably priced to expensive. Try one of the tempting fish restaurants along the seafront, sipping chilled wine and enjoying freshly prepared seafood. Enjoy a meal at one of the restaurants that spill out onto the square finishing with a good Catalan speciality such as Ron Cremat, traditionally rum flambe served with coffee beans in terracotta dishes.
The entertainment in this quiet resort is limited to a few bars along the promenade where you can sit just above the beach and watch the dusk fall over the bay.
A good choice of shops locally, although a trip to Girona Market is worthwhile for a colourful and varied choice.
Many of the local places of interest are a car journey away. These include the Cap Roig botanical gardens and castle in Calella de Palafrugell and the picturesque medieval town of Pals. If you are a keen walker, there is a hard but worthy climb up through the pine forest to el Far de Sant Sebastia, the lighthouse on the hill above Llafranc, with impressive views. The path leaves from Llafanc's parish church. On your way up you'll pass the Megalithic dolmen of Can Mina de Torrents (3,400 to 3,000 BC).
