Luxury holidays in Benidorm

Granted, the term luxury holidays to Benidrom doesn't automatically spring to mind. But there's more to this classic beach resort than just buckets and spades. In fact, it might just surprise you…

Away from its soaring tower blocks and skyscrapers there's another side to Benidorm. There's the old town for starters. All whitewashed houses, narrow streets and tapas bars, it's a far cry from the neon-lit bars of Benidorm proper– perfect if you're looking to get away from it all.

And if relaxation tops your wish list, the golden sands of Benidorm are hard to beat. And here's a top tip, head to Playa Poniente. It's much quieter and less crowded than its neighbour, the ever popular Levanate beach.

Of course, relaxation comes in many different forms. If slipping into a whirlpool or stretching out in a sauna sounds like your idea of heaven, go to the Benicaldea fitness centre at the Hotel Ambassador Playa for a day of pampering and indulgence.

In terms of days and nights out, Benidorm is perfectly positioned for trips out. About an hour away you've got Alicante. Forget the airport, this chic seaside city is gorgeous. Guarded by a cliff-top castle, its old town is a joy to discover, all windy little backstreets and balconies overhung with geraniums. The new part of town is great for shopping, you'll find the exclusive El Corte Ingles department store here, while the marina, with is clutch of swish bars and trendy hang outs, is a must for a sophisticated night out. Valencia is also within striking distance and offers up even more in the way of cosmopolitan chic.

When it comes to places to stay, there's one clear contender in the luxury holidays to Benidorm stakes – the 5T Hotel Don Pancho. Draped in ivy and set with splashing waterfalls and exotic plants, you'll get a taste of what awaits as you walk up to the entrance. It's really rather special.
