Hotel Levante Club

in Benidorm , Costa Blanca T rating: 4

  • Stylish, modern hotel
  • Excellent service
  • Spacious rooms
“A smart hotel in the heart of Benidorm, this place combines good looks with a great entertainment scene and a plush spa.”
Right now there’s one hotel in Benidorm that’s on everyone’s lips - the Levante Club. Stylish and cutting-edge, this new property in the Rincon de Loix part of town is setting the standard for the Costa Blanca’s next generation of hotels. Take the lobby, for instance. Step inside the revolving doors and you’re greeted by grand pillars, marble floors and ornamental fig trees. The pièce de résistance, however, is the colossal floor-to-ceiling windows that wrap themselves around the bottom of the hotel, flooding it with natural light.

Down by the pool terrace, palm trees and chic linen parasols set the scene for a chilled-out break. For more in the way of relaxation, there’s a spa and fitness centre. It’s a mosaic-tiled haven of Turkish baths, thermal pools and a state-of-the-art gym. The beach, meanwhile, is about a 10 to 15-minute walk away.

In terms of rooms, the standard ones are fuss-free and decked out in neutral tones. They all come with balconies and little extras like minibars, satellite TVs and air-conditioning. Upgrade to a superior room, however, and you can look forward to more square footage and luxurious furnishings.

On the food front, the restaurant strikes just the right note for laid-back dining. It serves up great buffet spreads for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with traditional Spanish dishes and international favourites among the offerings.

Arguably the best recommendation for a hotel is its popularity. And testament to the Levante Club's reputation is the number of wedding receptions held here. The hotel has become the venue of choice for newly-weds and their guests so you may even spot a happy couple in one of the function rooms.

Your guide to Benidorm, Costa Blanca

"Benidorm sprawls happily up the hills and off into the horizon. Developed from a tiny fishing village, it is now one of the cleanest and most popular resorts in the Mediterranean."

To all intents and purposes, Benidorm is the Costa Blanca. Tucked up against a duo of beaches, its modern skyline has something almost Manhattan-esque about it. But that’s only part of the picture, as the 1.3 million Brits who holiday here every year will tell you. Levante is the high energy area and the undisputed capital of happy hour bars, roast dinners and neon discos. Poniente, meanwhile, is the quiet part of town where the crowd becomes more Spanish the closer you inch to it. Dividing the two is the old town – think cobbled streets, dinky white houses and tapas bars.

Of course, the beaches are the big draw, though. The pale golden sands here not only boast Blue Flag status, they’re rated among Europe’s best. They’ve got first-class facilities, too. Take the brand-new promenade that runs the full length of Poniente Beach, for instance. All multi-coloured decking arranged in a funky wave-like formation, it adds a touch of style to Benidorm. The promenade at Levante Beach, meanwhile, is crammed with cafés, bars and restaurants. There’s even a beach library.

Away from the sands, the shopping scene caters for all tastes, particularly in the old town. You’ll find shops of every kind, from traditional delis to boutiques selling designer togs. Check out the El Cisne Market, too. Held every weekend, it’s stacked with antiques. On the food front, expect things like vindaloo, chop suey, bacon and eggs - you name it, it’s probably on the menu. For a taste of Spain though, it has to be Santo Domingo Street in the old town, otherwise known as Tapas Alley. It seems like every Spaniard under the sun gathers here to graze on big juicy olives and jamon Serrano.

Last but not least, families shouldn’t miss Benidorm’s four big theme parks. Aqualandia waterpark always hits the mark with slides like Niagara and the Big Bang. And Terra Mitica theme park is just as action-packed with white-knuckle rides that guarantee screams. Or spend a day at one of the animal parks.
