'If you're looking for the authentic atmosphere of a sleepy Andalucian mountain village, El Gastor is the cat's whiskers.'
Traditional Andalucia is a different kettle of fish from the buzzing beach life of the Costa Del Sol. It's a world of stunning scenery, dotted with dinky white-washed villages, fragrant citrus groves and sparkling rivers. And you can't get more typical of this captivating corner of the globe than El Gastor. The local area is largely undiscovered by tourism, so you'll be able to enjoy a generous helping of peace and quiet along with the views. But there's also a sprinkling of shops, bars and restaurants, so you won't feel completely isolated. The order of the day is generally to relax and enjoy the relaxed pace of life, not to mention tucking in to local delicacies like serrano ham and juicy green olives. If you're into nature, you'll be in your element. El Gastor is on the edge of the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park, famous for its spectacular limestone landscape of cliffs, caves, gullies and gorges. Do some rambling and you might catch a glimpse of eagles or griffon vultures soaring around the hilltops. And if you haven't overdosed on eye-catching scenery, it's definitely worth a trip out to nearby Zahara de la Sierra, an unbelievably gorgeous little hillside village, overlooked by a ruined Moorish castle. Then, of course, there's nearby Ronda, one of Spain's oldest and most beautiful towns, dramatically set either side of a cavernous gorge.
