'Alhaurin is the perfect place to relax and enjoy some typical Andalucian atmosphere.'
Tucked into the heart of the Guadalhorce Valley, towns don't come much more authentically Andalucian than Alhaurin el Grande. It's a great place to immerse yourself in local culture but you've also got all the lively beach resorts of the Costa Del Sol just a short drive away. It was the Moors that gave Alhaurin its name, although this 'Garden of Allah' had already been tended by Neolithic man, the Romans and the Visigoths. In fact, there are traces of these civilizations still around, including three Roman columns in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento and pre-historic remains in the forests to the south east of town. However, today's Alhaurin is out-and-out Spanish. Its network of narrow streets, white-washed houses and tapas bars perfectly capture the essence of Andalucia. The surrounding countryside offers plenty of opportunity to get back to nature, so make sure you pack some comfy shoes or walking boots. And in the evening there's a good selection of bars and restaurants to choose from. The emphasis is on traditional Spanish. So you're more likely to be sipping gazpacho with a hunk of rustic pan cateto bread on the side than munching a slice of pizza or tucking in to a plate of fish and chips. Tempting to say the least.
