Not only that, this place overlooks the spectacular River Tagus and lively docklands area. Take that view, add hot morning coffee, and you have the perfect start to your day. But it's not just the location that's a stunner. The hotel's pretty dapper itself. At the Vila Gale Opera, you'll feel music in the air with every step you take. The decor's inspired by famous operas from around the world, with giant pictures on every wall. Chubby sopranos in bow ties are flanked by rosy-cheeked women in flowing skirts, frozen mid song and thrown onto a blank canvas. The most impressive example is in the Falstaf Restaurant. Before you've even sat down you'll be amazed at the giant operatic stills looming down from above. All this before you've even ordered. So settle into your seat, pour a glass of Casal Mendes and open the menu. This is a la carte dining so there are oodles of fine dishes to try. How about Cappucino de Lagosta to start? That's a frothy lobster cappuccino and salad to you and me. For a main course you might want to try something that's typically Portuguese. The Feijoada de Marisco, a seafood and white bean stew in a tomato and lobster broth, is a particular favourite. With such a fine menu you may be tempted to order a bit of everything, but that's fine. There's no need for calorie-induced guilt. Swimming is an excellent form of exercise, so you can slip into your costume and do a few laps of the pool. Maybe work up a sweat in the gym. Or relax on the massage table and forget about that second slice of chocolate cheesecake you tucked away. Go on, you're on holiday after all.
