Your guide to
Sao Joao, Albufeira, Algarve
“A glorious beach, restaurants to suit every taste and dance till dawn discos – if that sounds like your sort of holiday then consider Sao Joao.”
The first thing you’ll notice about Sao Joao is the beach. Five kilometres of golden sand. Rugged, sandstone cliffs. Sedate surf. It’s gorgeous. There are watersports on hand for thrill-seekers and sunbeds for those who had something a little more relaxing in mind. This is predominately a modern resort but you might still get a glimpse of days gone by – like the fishermen dragging their boats across the sand and mending their nets, if you walk down the beach at the right time of day. For a longer walk, wander the cliff-top path and wind your way around pretty bays and inlets. You can also take a boat trip to visit caverns and grottos in the cliffs along the coastline. Come the evening, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to eating out. ‘The Strip’ in Sao Joao is lined with every different type of restaurant imaginable. After eating, the night owls can choose from some excellent discos, so don’t forget to pack your dancing shoes. Looking to flex your shopping muscles? Stroll around the central square, you’ll come across street vendors selling souvenirs and landscape art. And if you’re venturing further afield the old town and all the facilities of Albufeira are just a few kilometres down the road. With all your holiday needs covered, there’s nothing left for you to do but relax and enjoy it.

Our party of 7 (5 adults and 2 children aged 6 and 1) stayed in this villa for 2 weeks at the beginning of October. As stated in the previous review the villa has old style furnishings so great if you want traditional, basic but comfortable. The kitchen... more on this review
