Guide to Quinta Do Lago

'Brimming with boutiques, stylish restaurants and gorgeous countryside, Quinta do Lago is all about the finer things in life.'

This is no typical Algarve village. Those who planned Quinta do Lago dreamt of a haven where you could relax in exclusive surroundings. Cue villas, apartments and hotels scattered through the trees. Stretching down to the soaring cliffs. Overlooking three kilometres of fine sandy beach. To say it's gorgeous doesn't even come close. Plus you've got the vast Ria Formosa National Park running alongside. And a superb, 36 hole championship course. Golfers will be in their element here – it's considered to be one of the best golfing areas in Europe. However if club swinging isn't for you, you can always opt for tennis or squash. Try clay pigeon shooting. Or take advantage of one of the best equipped riding centres in Europe. And while the gorgeous beach is perfect for that sunshine downtime, there's a freshwater lake close at hand too. Get wet without the sea-salt and take the plunge for a spot of windsurfing. If none of that appeals, pull on a pair of trainers, wander along the clifftop and capture the view on camera. Or let your wallet take the strain and make a beeline for the boutiques – it's a designer shopping dream come true. In the evening, cosy dinners are the order of the day. Restaurants draw their menus from around the world and there's always lots of seafood on the menu too. So you've got plenty of delicious dishes to choose from - but you might have trouble agreeing where to eat. Decisions, decisions. And afterwards? Head for one of the classy bars or nightclubs too and let your hair down in style. One thing's for sure, in Quinta do Lago it's luxury all the way.

The magnificent natural backdrop to Quinta do Lago almost guarantees that everything you do will take place in awesome scenery. The pine forests, dating back centuries, and the parkland make this some of the best golfing country in Europe, and as such this place is a golf lover's dream. There is plenty for others to occupy themselves with. Alongside the beach, Quinta do Lago has a freshwater lake offering a variety of water sports from fishing to windsurfing. Alternatively stay dry on the tennis court or shooting some clay pigeons. If none of this appeals, you can simply enjoy the countryside on foot or from the comfort of a sun bed.

Beaches

With the majestic Atlantic Ocean to one side and soaring cliffs to the other, the beach life at Quinta do Lago is certainly one to savour. The 3km stretch of golden sand that graces this resort is one of its many selling points, with the cooling waters of the ocean providing a refreshing break from the rigours of a day in the sun. The beach is also a great place for the family: you may not have fun in the sand of the golf course but your children will certainly love the beach variety.

Eating out

There is plenty of choice when it comes to eating. Restaurants here are designed for the international traveller so you can gorge yourself on cuisine from across the world. However it's worth tasting some local favourites. As you'd expect from a resort by the ocean, fresh seafood is high on the menu. And what to finish your meal off with? Port of course.

Nightlife

Quinta do Lago has a good range of bars and nightclubs to keep those in search of good times happy into the early hours. What can be better than drinking a beer or mojito on a sultry evening before dancing the night away and then strolling home beside the moon-touched sea?

Shopping

Due to the exclusive nature of this resort the shopping here is definitely high class. Boutiques are more likely to appear than rustic market stalls, so you'll be able to stock up on designer gear. The resort has everything else you may need on your holiday with a range of supermarkets and shops.

Local information

There is so much to do and see in this area that you'll be wondering how to fit it all in. Lose yourself in the breathtaking scenery that is begging to be explored - all you need is a pair of shoes and a bottle of water. A walk along the cliffs is equally rewarding and may well lead you to a quiet beach that you can have all to yourself. If you fancy checking-out some other Algarve resorts, Albufeira and Vilamoura are a short drive away.
