'Beach-lovers beware - one trip to this tranquil, laid-back beach resort and you'll be hooked!'
In terms of distance, Praia Da Gale is only a few kilometres from Albufeira. But when it comes to atmosphere it could be a million miles. There's no dance-till-dawn nightlife, no loud music and definitely no teeming crowds here. Instead you'll find a glorious, five-kilometre sandy beach - where you'll always find space to yourself. And a handful of excellent restaurants. Spend lazy days enjoying the sun and floating in the sea. Watching the sun go down over dinner at a beachside restaurant - savouring mouthfuls of freshly grilled sardines and a chilled glass of local wine. There are sunloungers at the beach. And lunch is always just a few steps away. Behind the beach, the residential area is quiet and unassuming, with more restaurants, bars, cafes and mini-markets. There's even a large supermarket with its own deli and bakery. If you do feel like spicing things up a bit, it's only a short taxi ride to Albufeira, where you'll find all the nightlife and bars you could wish for. Take it easy – Algarve-style.
This resort is ideal for families who like getting away from it all on holiday, though there are enough activities to prevent boredom and enough facilities to make your stay very comfortable. The atmosphere of calm and seclusion also makes Praia da Gale an attractive destination for couples seeking a romantic break.

If you do want to try the fruits of the sea, Portugal's national dish is 'bacalhau' - dried cod - delicious when served with a creamy sauce, potatoes and salad. Alternatively, enjoy a stew made from meat or fish cooked in a 'cataplana' - a copper dish that originates from the area and steams food in its own juices, sealing in the flavours. A wine growing region, known for smooth reds and delicate whites, the Algarve is a wonderful place to treat your tastebuds.
There are many British-owned bars and some local discotheques. A little further afield is the Vilamoura casino.
There are a few shops in the Praia da Gale area and plenty more in Albufeira offering a wide selection of traditional oil paintings and handicrafts. You will also find numerous supermarkets.
