“With Sir Cliff Richard among its celebrity fans, Guia is the perfect spot to enjoy a great ‘summer holiday’.”
Postcard-pretty Guia has two main claims to fame - chicken piri-piri and Cliff Richard. The former you’ll find in the many authentic Algarvian restaurants. And the latter? He can often be found at his own gastronomic pride and joy, the Adega do Cantor or ‘Winery of the Singer’, just outside the village. You can drop in for a tour and a glass of Vida Nova - not to mention stunning views from the top of the Quinta do Miradouro where the winery is located. If you fancy a day or two at the seaside, it’s not far to some of the Algarve’s best beaches. Gale, with its vast stretch of golden sand. Sao Rafael, with its amazing rock formations. And Castelo, a series of small cove beaches, interspersed with strangely shaped cliffs, stone stacks and blowholes. As for family fun, Zoomarine is the place to head to. Tickets provide entry to both the marine zoo - home to dolphins, seals and more - and the water park, where you can make a splash on the slides. If you’re into azulejos, the Portuguese answer to Roman mosaics, take a stroll to Guia’s quaint little parish church, where you’ll find some fine examples from the 17th century.
