Once upon a time this beauty spot was little more than a beach, albeit a pretty special one. And now it's all grown up - into a friendly resort. But the main attraction is still Gale's magnificent stretch of sand. There's nothing better than stretching out on a sunlounger and banishing all thoughts of work from your mind. And if doing nothing gets a bit too much, you can always try your hand at some watersports – the facilities here are as good as you'll find anywhere in the Algarve. Looking for a little seclusion? Try the east end of the beach, where you'll find some cosy coves and a scattering of big rock pools. Foodwise, you're spoilt for choice. As well as a supermarket with its own deli and bakery, Gale has a reasonable selection of eateries, including some good fish restaurants. And there's always the nearby town of Guia, famous for its traditional piri-piri chicken. While you're there you might want to drop in to Cliff Richard's winery and enjoy a glass of the singer's Vida Nova, along with some stunning coastal views from the Quinta do Miradouro. Other places to visit in the area include the Algarve Shopping Centre, with its stores, fast food outlets, cinema and bowling, the Slide and Splash water park and ZooMarine, where you can be entertained by dolphins, sealions and parrots.
