This place gives you stylish rooms, a couple of pools and a spa. And it’s right by a sandy beach.
Pestana Dom Joao II is just a stone’s throw from the soft sands of Praia d’Alvor. It’s also only a 10-minute walk to the town’s main square, where you’ll find plenty of restaurants and bars.
Inside, rooms are ultra-modern – think neutral décor and rainfall showers in the bathrooms. They all come with a balcony or terrace. Plus, some have a sea view so they’re perfect for watching sunsets. This hotel is part of the Skytours range until April 2017.

It takes them ages .coffee machine dreadfull and fruit juice garbage .they serve the worst orange juice .considering all you see when out and about is oranges i find it strange that there is no decent fresh orange juice .good location for golf courses .needs a refurb also .More
Golfing in the sun in March
The hotel was well positioned only 2 minutes from the sea, 20 minutes walk from the town centre and less than 30 minutes from several good golf courses. The room had all relevant amenities and was well serviced each day. There was an offer for an all you could eat buffet in the hotel restaurant the night I arrived for 15 euros. The only drawback was that you had to book for each night of the stay. Always check the small print as the town has many excellent restaurants.More

We booked this hotel as a golf package at very short notice. The photos in the marketing material do not do justice to how nice the hotel is. Yes, it is a typical 1970's build and is more functional than stylish, but in a way that is its beauty. From the minute we checked in the reception staff were polite and helpful. They promptly arranged our golf transfers, The company they use for transfers provides excellent service with polite, well turned out and helpful drivers. The room was small, but the beds and sofa very comfortable. Like other reviewers we found the rainfall shower to be excellent. There is plenty of storage space. The only issue I had was that there was no hair drier in the room. Breakfast was plentiful and we had no problems with queuing, even when it was busy. Bar staff were excellent. If we had time we would have used the spa facilities, but maybe another time when we are not golfing. The walk along the boardwalk into Alvor was very pleasant and I loved the views from the room and especially the lovely panoramic views from the seating area on each floor. There is much to recommend this hotel. Yes, you could find fault if you looked but there is more to recommend this hotel as overall I felt relaxed all the time I was there. We were delighted on my husband's birthday to come back to the room to find a birthday cake and note from the management team. Thank you!!! The carpeted corridors meant we were unaware of people checking out or in early or late as there was no suitcase noise. I may go back later this year if I can get accommodation to suit three older ladies, one of whom needs assistance.More
Great holiday, but could do better
Breaks my heart not to give this an excellent rating, but just too many small things, which in total add up to something significant, to give it the best rating. Sea view upgrade, at no great cost, is a must. Staff really helpful and friendly (except bar staff) just just never seemed to be enough of them. One person on reception at check-in and we had to wait 15 mins. Slight qualification here is that we went in March which is still the winter season and things may be better in the summer season. Room maids fantastic. Indoor pool and changing area needs a real good clean but is a great facility. Breakfast plentiful and decent quality but go early or late otherwise it is very busyMore
The hotel is very close to the beach and within a convenient distance to shops and restaurants. The staff were a real highlight and were great with my 3-year-old daughter. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.More
