Dunas do Alvor Apartments

These roomy apartments are only minutes from Alvor’s sandy beach and village centre. There’s a bus stop nearby, too, so you can get to Lagos and Albufeira easily.

These apartments have location all sewn up. They’re a 5-minute stroll from Alvor’s golden sands, and the village centre is even closer. Plus, there’s a handful of cafés, bars and shops in the complex itself.

Bright and spacious apartments are set in a trio of buildings that skirt the pool area. There’s plenty of sunbathing space, plus a bar serving drinks and snacks.

This should be 3.5

The apartment was very clean & very spacious. It was fairly well-equipped, although looking a little tired. It was serviced almost every day. We were in Block A & the outside entrance door was an absolute pain to get into to - it really needs a new lock. There are bars, a small but well stocked supermarket & restaurants within the complex which were all good, especially the ones serving large beers at E1. It was a little noisy from them at night, especially as there was much football showing! The pool area is very good & well-tended. We were dumped at the hotel by the Thomson's rep, and didn't find the initial reception very good. However, when we needed the shower fixed, it was attended to right away. There is a bit of a walk into the harbour area for a better choice of restaurants & also the beach; but Alvor is a nice little town.More

Spacious clean accomodation

My husband and I and another couple stayed at Dunas for a week from 4th - 11th October. We had a two bedroom apartment overlooking the central plaza. The apartment was clean and very spacious. Television, safe,Washing machine, iron, hairdryer etc were provided and kitchen equipment was adequate and there were plenty of towels. Like some of the other reviewers I just presumed there would be air conditioning. However two free standing fans were provided and as it turned out the nights were cooler in October and we didn't need to use them much. Our apartment (booked through Booking.com.)belongs to Torralvor (they own 40 of the apartments)and the staff were friendly and helpful, especially Sara and Miguel. There was a problem with all the keys.there was a knack in opening the main doors- took a few minutes to fiddle about with in order to get in - ok if you didn't need the loo in a hurry! Miguel acknowledged this problem and intends to change the locks at the end of the season. There was a fair bit of noise from the outdoor ares of the bars ,but it was usually quiet by 12.30. It may be a problem if you have young children. There was no plug in the bath or bidet which we didn't bother mentioning. The shower was fine. There were a few repairs required -two the windows didn't lock and a cover was loose on one of the wall switches but these were repaired when pointed out. We would stay in Dunas again, because of the location (5 min walk to the centre of the village and 10-15 min walk to the beach)(and the spaciousness and cleanliness of the apartment. The restaurants, bars and supermarket on site were also very convenient and I would hope that the key problem would be sorted.More

Good Value and Spacious

I managed to get a last minute break with Thomson at the Dunas Do Alvor, and after a swift transfer we arrived to find a clean and spacious one bedroom apartment, which contained everything you need for a relaxing holiday. The apartments are located in the lower part of town, opposite a school and are a short walk from the main roundabout in the centre of 'new' Alvor (not far from the Pharmacy & Ali supermarket if you know the town). It's also only a 10 minute walk in the opposite direction to the beach. The beach is absolutely gorgeous - one of the main reasons we love Alvor so much. The apartments have 24 hour reception - two lovely ladies were always on hand to help with any queries. On-site there is a selection of well priced bars/cafes/restaurant/minimarket and laundry service if you don't want to venture far. There are a few cafes and bars outside the complex but nearby, including a lovely Portuguese-run 'Quiosque' (kiosk) directly opposite Reception which was very friendly if you want to mix with the locals. I'm not sure when the apartments were constructed, but they are not flash-modern, however they are clean and comfortable - good quality cooking equipment (if you need it), a large fridge freezer, TV, decent sized bathroom with a bath & powerful shower. Maid service was every other day; bed linen was changed a few times as were the towels. No complaints - would definitely stay there again due to location. There are more modern options in Alvor, I'm sure - but few with such a good location, on-site facilities and such a good price.More

Pleasant Surprise

We booked through booking.com for a week; end Sept /beg Oct. Our biggest problem was finding the place! (Arrival by car and despite GPS which didn't show the apartments). There is no name-board outside; only Inside the reception area which is something that should be changed and would make a huge difference to people searching for the complex. We were directed to a small office (Torralvor) where we received rapid and efficient service, including being shown personally to our room, the free underground garage etc. On arrival, we noticed the lock to the balcony was broken and it was dealt with immediately. There was a delicious bottle of cold Rosé wine in the fridge awaiting us and the lady explained that cleaning would only be done on request during a one-week stay. We didn't need this service and there were more than enough spare towels available in the flat. We were delighted by the look and the spaciousness of the clean, one-bedroomed apartment, which had a North/East facing balcony providing us with a little sun during breakfast. The kitchen was well equipped and clean; the only thing missing for me was a tea-pot, which we requested and were pleased to find (brand new) on our return the following day. We slept surprisingly well considering the rather firm, simple beds and the bedroom, (in fact the whole flat) had very generous cupboard-space. The bathroom was adequate but the shower curtain didn't smell it's freshest. There was always boiling hot water available in both kitchen and bathroom and a walk-in store cupboard the put suitcases etc. Luckily the nights were reasonably cool so with fresh-air through open windows we were fine, but it must be a challenge during the summer months, especially for the South/West facing flats, without air conditioning. There was a fan available in the flat which we occasionally used. The cafés & supermarket are all nice to have on hand and the swimming pool is wonderful; we used it every evening on our return to the complex. The proximity to Alvor town centre and a whole host of good restaurants is a big plus. We would definitely stay here again.More

Good facilities, basic apartment

Spent 6 days at the end of September. This was my second visit and unfortunately was a different experience from my visit in May. We were unable to get the same apartment as previously and although the one we were given was next door, it was smaller with smaller balcony. The apartment was not as well kept with 2 broken drawers in the wardrobe and the balcony had a swallows nest at top corner. Towards the end of our stay, part of the nest had fallen away to reveal a dead bird. The communal areas are clean but certain areas such as the lifts and poolside toilets are in need of refurbishment. The pool area is still well maintained and there are plenty of sunbeds although mattresses seemed to be in shorter supply if you didn't arrive in the morning. There also seemed to be a different clientele from May which created a different atmosphere. Personally, I would not rush back to this accommodation at this time.More
