These roomy apartments are only minutes from Alvor’s sandy beach and village centre. There’s a bus stop nearby, too, so you can get to Lagos and Albufeira easily.
These apartments have location all sewn up. They’re a 5-minute stroll from Alvor’s golden sands, and the village centre is even closer. Plus, there’s a handful of cafés, bars and shops in the complex itself.
Bright and spacious apartments are set in a trio of buildings that skirt the pool area. There’s plenty of sunbathing space, plus a bar serving drinks and snacks.
A light and simply styled 1 bedroom apartment with white wooden furniture and tiled flooring throughout. There’s a open-plan lounge area with dining table and chairs, kitchenette and a balcony. It sleeps up to 4, in twin beds and two sofa beds in the lounge.
Apartments are in an ideal location, however, over priced and over rated
The complex is massive, incorporating Dunas Do Alvor and Villa Marachique apartments under management of Torralvor. There are 4 bars, a restaurant, a mini market and even a dentist! Large swimming pool for customers only (access with key). But the whole place was soul-less, no atmosphere anywhere (unfortunately the main Music Bar, Cactus 11, was closed). The apartment had adequate facilities, large fridge, kettle, toaster and microwave and flat screen tv. But no heating except for a small electric radiator-the place was COLD. On the plus side, had a balcony with a pool view, with sun most of the day. The maid service was very poor, we arrived late Monday, on Tuesday maids changed the bedding, emptied what little rubbish there was, and we never saw them again! Terrible servicer. On the plus side, the location is excellent, 2 minutes to the big Intermache Supermarket, 5 minutes to Alvor town, and a 10-15 walk to the beach. We found some lovely beach bars, to name a few-Restinga, O Canddeerio, but the best was without doubt the Atlantico - views to die for. We would return to Alvor, but not the Dunas Appartments.More
These apartments are in a really good position. An easy walk into town, the beach or the harbour/fishing port. See photo. (The red pin is the Dunas do Alvor)
They are built in a two curve formation, around two large courtyards that house bars, snack bars etc (see expanded photo)
We had a one bedroom apartment, which was fine, if a bit shabby. The curtains and sofa were a bit threadbare, but spotlessly clean. Beds were comfy and the bathroom very large with loads of hot water.
We had Room 239 on the 2nd floor, overlooking the side road and were not disturbed by traffic noise at all.
That said, we never opened the windows because the weather was very cold!
There's no air con or heating at all and we were cold except when we were in bed! A couple of times we put the oven on and left its door open , but it wasn't much help really.
We were there 8 nights and had 2 sets of clean towels provided.
The check in and check out needs sorting. We reported to reception, but this was a different company who had some rooms there and it took a few phone call to resolve.
All in all, basic, clean, good location and we'd stay there again.More
Great apartments shame about Marcolda 00351963936874....Baby come back...and we WOULD DEFINITELY.!!!! Please read on
Here is the story...I have been here before but in high season so be like a "boy scout" and be prepared for out of season. We turned up as planned at 11pm following our transfer to find there was no one home, the doors for the apartments were locked and no access to reception and the contact number on the paperwork didnt work...Eeek? What were two (fifty plus) people supposed to do?Sleep on the street? NO!
We walked some hundred metres and flagged a really nice taxi man...who when we explained our dilemma took us to the Pestana Dom Joao II ( check out our reveiw on this place).
Reception was friendly and didnt "gouge us" and at an amazing price there was room for Mary and Joseph at the inn.
The next morning we walked from there to the Dunas Do Alvor and no one on reception and no one from Marcolda either???
Fortunately two wonderful people called Sara and Miguel from Tripadvisor helped us out. They called a number they associated with Sunshine for the accomodation and asked for someone to arrive and they did after a second phone call. No English spoken but to fair ( no Portuguese spoken by us) the keys were exchanged and we were in.
Arrivals for this company we will take up personally .
Onwards and upwards ..what a lovely apartment.
South facing balcony, seaview, spacious ,clean and everything we could have wanted.
Full kitchen for those who like cooking (thats us)..and large ...did I say LARGE bathroom with bidet, toilet bath and shower and wash basin.
It was clean and what we wanted and we had maid service twice in the 7 days we were there.
Fresh towels and sheets in this time..may we add perhaps the maids could have come back the first day when we were out as they worked around as still having a late breakfast in the apartment ?
We cannot speak too highly about the complex , it as early season ( still their winter so the locals said) but good none the less.
The pool was not yet in use ( too cold ...even for us hardy scottish people)
The chill out bar was too cold to sit outside as still cool weather, but he has indoor facilties and we played a few round of pool.In the high season a euro a pint is a major attraction.
The Alburs restaurant (see seperate review) was amazing and such lovely people and we had a romantic meal on our last night.
ALL IN ALL...Dunas Do Alvor is perfectly situated for bars, beach and town for easy access so please check it out BUT be careful who you book the accomodation with.
Sorry it's taken me so long to write this review.
Visited Aug 15 for a week, stayed in room 238 above reception...good room lots of storage space
Can't fault the location of these apartments, 5 mins to the amazing beach, which we went to every day, and 5 mins to resort centre.
We found the apartment to be clean, but the maid could be a little more thorough.
Pool area was busy but clean, good size pool...we didn't really use the pool, and the gates opened at 9.00 am, a handful of people waiting to put their towels down.
The lady who checked us in on reception was friendly, but my partner encountered a rude lady one evening when he tried to use the Internet...asked for change and was told "we are not a bank".
Good facilities on site...lovely staff at Cactus Bar...we would pop in after our night out for a night cap...you could stay here all night if you didn't want to venture out.
While there we hired an extra fan and a safe...our check out on last day was early morning, so we were told to get our deposit back for the safe the night before...we tried to this after our meal, which wasn't late, around 10pm...couldn't find anyone, we waited for quite some time as did another couple...we still had to pay for the second fan, but they owed us our deposit for the safe, so luckily wasn't out of pocket, but you could have been...worth sorting earlier in the evening.
Well stocked supermarket on site...to conclude, there are a few negatives, but not enough to stop us going there again...Alvor is beautiful, and these apartments have the best location.
I had read that there were a few break ins, didn't hear of any when we were there, but we made sure we double locked out door and hired a safe.
First week of August there is a circus within walking distance.
Highly recommend this place for families.
We got this two bed apt from homeaway owned by neil dutson. Pick up too and from the airport was arranged at a very reasonable price. The apt was huge and extremely well equipped for four of us. Although out of season everywhere was still open with some lovely eating places. It is more authentic than most resorts and ideal for a quiet relaxing break. Lovely beach and seafront and only a bus ride away from the busier more touristy resorts. More
