Dunas do Alvor Apartments

These roomy apartments are only minutes from Alvor’s sandy beach and village centre. There’s a bus stop nearby, too, so you can get to Lagos and Albufeira easily.

These apartments have location all sewn up. They’re a 5-minute stroll from Alvor’s golden sands, and the village centre is even closer. Plus, there’s a handful of cafés, bars and shops in the complex itself.

Bright and spacious apartments are set in a trio of buildings that skirt the pool area. There’s plenty of sunbathing space, plus a bar serving drinks and snacks.

BE AWARE OF BREAK-INS IN APARTMENTS!

Before booking to go here with Thomson holidays in July 2015 we read reviews and it seemed a good place to go. On arrival we were shown to our apartment by the maid, left cases in room, locked apartment and went to the Cactus bar below apartment for refreshments. During this time our apt was unlocked, entered into and 2 of our 3 cases broken into by breaking zips. Clothes were rifled through and 80 Euros stolen from one of the bags. The third case attempted to be broken into using knives from kitchen draw but they failed and knives remained in the case. Thomson rep called for and police. Went to police station next day and were intimidated and made to feel like we had done something wrong and like the event was quite common so they were going through the motions!!. Spoke to other holiday makers and discovered this had also happened to others upon arrival recently and in the past (see past reviews!) Another holiday maker had also had his apt entered using a key, safe deposit box opened, money only taken and passports documents and valuables remaining. We were so frightened to stay there for the remainder of our holiday (even though they changed locks) and Thomson said due to high season there was no alternative accommodation available. We made the decision to return home 2 days later at our own expenses. During this terrible experience we did not see the hotel manager or get any apology or reassurance from anyone in authority. The only people who helped us were the two ladies on the reception. Lots of the reviews are good but my advice is NOT TO BOOK A HOLIDAY TO THESE APARTMENTS AND WE WON'T BE USING THOMSON AGAIN AS WE FELT THEY FAILED IN THEIR DUTY BY NOT WARNING HOLIDAYMAKERS TO TAKE CARE AND SUPPORTING US FULLY DURING THIS NIGHTMARE OF A HOLIDAY!!!!! NB: I have waited till my dispute with Thomson has finished before writing this review so not to jinx it. I am still £600 out of pocket!!!More

Holiday

We got this two bed apt from homeaway owned by neil dutson. Pick up too and from the airport was arranged at a very reasonable price. The apt was huge and extremely well equipped for four of us. Although out of season everywhere was still open with some lovely eating places. It is more authentic than most resorts and ideal for a quiet relaxing break. Lovely beach and seafront and only a bus ride away from the busier more touristy resorts. More

One of the worst holidays ever and will never travel with Thompsons again.

Holiday October 2015 for one week. We booked with Thompson (will never do this again), thought a good company and so assumed apartment would be the same. We requested a quiet room months before we travelled and was given an apartment directly over a bar with live music every night, this couldn't have been worse for me as I am hearing impaired in order to hear my other half or TV we had to keep the balcony door shut which was stifling. The hotel provided us with a fan which ran noisily, I still couldn't hear my partner so we had to turn it off, so still stifling hot. Not only were there people below in high spirit with loud voices, there was the music and the constant smell of food cooking which managed to bypass the closed doors. The apartment had so many things wrong with it on top of the noise and smell. The sink was cracked and unhygienic and we were advised the plastic bowl was adequate, the cutlery drawer was broken and fell out, the bed room only had one lamp so we couldn't really see what were doing and needed to exist the bed at night to turn off the light, the toilet wouldn't flush away properly and there was no toilet brush, the next day the toilet stopped flushing completely, the shower rail was loose and feel on my head, the TV control didn't work, it was covered with tape and every time we touched it we got sticky hands, a light switch was so faulty in the living room it was dangerous to touch (just think if minors had been in the same apartment), other lights didn't work, there was no blackout curtains in the bedroom, the lift wasn't working at the side door and then another lift also stopped. We asked for the complaints book but we were denied several times including by the manager who said he didn't know what we were talking about (the law in Portugal and a book held by all hotels), he said he hadn't been advised of any of the faults with the apartment and on another occasion a receptionist said she didn't work there. Thompson were all but useless, we asked to be moved, they said there were not other rooms available and Thompson wanted to rip us off by hundreds of pounds more than we had to move us to an alternative hotel, The rep managed to upset me even more and when I asked to speak with her manager he never materialised. We had to do something as we only had one weeks hard earned holiday to take, we spent a day touring around the other hotels in the area to seek out somewhere we could pay for independently and somewhere we may enjoy the rest of our holiday. We spent just under £200 to stay elsewhere the same hotel that Thompsons wanted to charge us £450 for. Since we have been back I have complained/written to Thompsons who reimbursed £65. As though this would compensate for our lost holiday!!!!More

Oh dear...

Went off season. Fair enough but really. No manned reception, just phone number of old chap who we struggled to get in contact with. Pool locked. No sun beds. No cleaners, not once in a fortnight. No wi-fi. No body else staying in apartments...creepy. Nothing on Sunmasters website to suggest any of this. Only reason I've given this two stars is it's position. Decent water pressure in shower. No oven. Rusty microwave. Lumpy pillows. Slvor itself is quite sweet.More

Fantastic Apartments

Very impressed with everything. Locality perfect and spotless. Right beside the Chill out Bar at 1euro a pint and good food. Sarah who runs the Apartments was brilliant and nothing was any trouble. Met loads of friends and still keep In touch, Have just booked again. This is our 5th time to Alvor and have booked the same apartments. Can't wait. Hope some of our friends will be there. Will never get fed up with Alvor a quaint little village with wonderful people.More
