Dunas do Alvor Apartments

These roomy apartments are only minutes from Alvor’s sandy beach and village centre. There’s a bus stop nearby, too, so you can get to Lagos and Albufeira easily.

These apartments have location all sewn up. They’re a 5-minute stroll from Alvor’s golden sands, and the village centre is even closer. Plus, there’s a handful of cafés, bars and shops in the complex itself.

Bright and spacious apartments are set in a trio of buildings that skirt the pool area. There’s plenty of sunbathing space, plus a bar serving drinks and snacks.

A fantastic holiday and we would recommend this to others.

We had a very nice holiday at this hotel. The reception was prepared nicely for our arrival and the rooms were ready and clean and fresh. The room had no air-conditioning but we didn't mind this too much as the heat wasn't over bearing. We paid for a safe for our more expensive items and the rooms were very secure like just about anywhere when you lock the rooms properly. The rooms were cleaned every other day and the towels were changed when we wanted them. The room itself was of more than ample size for us (2 adults, 2 toddlers) and equipped with everything we required to self-cater. The water pressure was very good which was a nice surprise and the bathroom was a large size. We had a road facing balcony, just above the reception which was perfect for us as the sun came up on the other side and it also kept us warm in the evening. There was the chorus of dogs barking in the night and also the odd drunken revellers shouting about but this did not put us off. The pool was very clean and fresh but the sunbeds were constantly taken up with towels from early in the morning and with nobody using them until later in the afternoon. We did manage to get some when some people go for an afternoon sleep but I did notice that people even left their towels overnight so they just occupied the sunbeds for their whole holiday. This was very annoying. There are plenty of bars and restaurants around that sold fantastic food for all ages and the prices for food and drink are amazing compared to the UK. The beach was a short 5-7minute walk for able bodied people although there aren't many distinct footpaths for the pushchairs to go directly there. The sea was very cold though but the beaches were lovely and clean and not overcrowded, even at this time of year. More

Great location, average accommodation

Just returned from 2 weeks holiday in Alvor, staying at Dunas. To sum up, Alvor is brilliant, Dunas location is brilliant, but the accommodation falls slightly short of standard on a few factors. We booked through Thomson, so the following may not be applicable from all renters. Safety deposit box rental at 20 euro per week is extortionate, balconies are not cleaned during standard room cleaning, beds and bedding are uncomfortable and towel change is too infrequent. These few on their own may not be that much of a hindrance, but the lack of air conditioning is what would probably stop me returning. If we return to Alvor in the future, which we likely will, we will be looking to stay in the same area, but in more up to date and comfortable accommodation. Although I would consider a room in Dunas from a hirer other than Thomson.More

"Very enjoyable holiday"

Our family of 5 just back from our first stay at the Dunas and Alvor, and have to say was pleasantly surprised. Was a little apprehensive about going due to reviews about break-ins and cleanliness. Have to be honest didn't risk using safety deposit box, but was very impressed with our rooms. We paid for 2 one bed apartments with Thomsons and when we arrived one of our apartments had 2 bedrooms, with lots of extras, DVD player, dish washer, large TV in living room and a smaller one in one bedroom, even had a washing machine and full size oven, fridge and freezer. Think we just dropped lucky, as second apartment wasn't like this, although very spacious and lots of wardrobe space. Our only gripe really about the place was the fact air con wasn't it the apartments (we knew this before we booked, but didn't realise that it would be so hot in the rooms) And the sunbed situation which you now seem to get everywhere you go. Selfish people who ruin things for everyone else, if you get a sunbed, fine, but USE IT! Pool gate opened each morning at 9.00am, by 8.30 lots of people were there armed with towels etc, on starting blocks. Most of these would then race to the beds throw their towels on them and then disappear for hours. Some not returning till 2ish. Life guards don't really help the situation by letting family and friends in everyday and the one lifeguard even saving a couple of the scarce beds for them. Just a little irritating when we have paid to go but lying on spiky grass being bitten by ants. Didn't spend a great deal of time at the Cactos, spent most of our time in the village, but what time we did spend there found it to be very friendly, and great value. Alvor is the prettiest, most magical place we have ever been to and the restaurants are excellent, Ruccula, Atrium and Vagabondo the best. We wouldn't hesitate to return and overall all had a great holiday.More

Worst holiday ever

We stayed here in 2013 would never ever go back. Apartments lovely and clean but they are apartments not a holiday resort. No kids club, no entertainment bar the one man karaoke every night with the same songs. No snack bar or anything you'd expect to see. Loads of naked old ladies sunbathing. Not for children at all! Location is central bit that's all it had going for it. Dogs barking incessantly all night every night.Never ever againMore

Great accommodation, great bar

Stayed in a private apartment on the Dunas after having such a great time in Alvor last year and loved the place. The Apartment was very spacious and spotlessly clean. The swimming pool was huge with lots of sun beds and parasols. There is also a mini market on site for all your essentials. Marcos and the Pic nice snack bars both provide an excellent breakfast ant there is also a restaurant on site which we didn't get chance to try this time round. The Cactus 2 Bar on site is simply brilliant. We found it last year whilst staying in another hotel. It is such a friendly bar, the nightly entertainment is great fun and their snacks are excellent. The apartments are very close to the centre and a ten minute walk from the beach. Will definitely be booking for next year.More
