Dunas do Alvor Apartments

These roomy apartments are only minutes from Alvor’s sandy beach and village centre. There’s a bus stop nearby, too, so you can get to Lagos and Albufeira easily.

These apartments have location all sewn up. They’re a 5-minute stroll from Alvor’s golden sands, and the village centre is even closer. Plus, there’s a handful of cafés, bars and shops in the complex itself.

Bright and spacious apartments are set in a trio of buildings that skirt the pool area. There’s plenty of sunbathing space, plus a bar serving drinks and snacks.

Not enough beds around Pool

After having the last 5yrs At Dunas for two weeks this year has to be the worse for the lack of beds!!!! But why do people blame Fernado, he keeps the pool area clean hose's down all sunbeds at 7.30am to free them from suncream/oil/ice cream etc, all the pool area is hosed down and all bins emptied. It is not his fault that Dunas as a complex do not provided the right amount of sunbeds for the holiday makers with pool passes!! Each apartment should be given there sunbeds for the amount of people in apartment so the 2 person apartment has 2, the 4 person apartment has 4 sunbeds, and 6 person has 6 sunbeds, such an easy way also 1 sunshade is more than enough for 3 beds of shade!! its such an easy way to do it, then any one with day passes has any spare and grass area, also put apartment numbers on beds then they could stay in the positon you like for week or 2!!! what do others think!!More

Excellent Location

Just back from 11 nights as a family of 2 adults and 2 children in the Dunas do Alvor apartments. The apartment we stayed in was a one bedroom with a pull out bed in the sitting room. Overall the apartment was excellent. It was big, bright and very clean. The pool is big and the surrounding area is well maintained, with a separate childrens pool. The complex is a 2 min walk to the centre of Alvor and about 5 min from the beach. There is secure underground carparking if you have a rental car. The only thing that could improve is the amount of sun loungers around the pool.More

Good, but could do better

Our family of four have just returned from a fortnight at these apartments which we booked through Thomson. The apartment was big, spacious and clean although a little dated. Gripes were only 3 chairs at the table a mis-match of crockery including only 3 cereal bowls, a fridge that didn't get very cold, smelly towels and bedding and some lights not working. Beds were comfortable enough although the pillows were small and lumpy. Only one plug socket in the kitchen area for 3 appliances and no hooks which is a bug bear of mine. We hired a fan for €1.50 per day and safe for €40, plus €10 deposit. Positives were the location as only 5 minutes from shops and town and only about 9 minutes to the beach, although it wasn't a pleasant walk through the dog filled barren landscape with lack of footpaths. Room had a narrow balcony that faced the kiosk and was a late afternoon sun trap. A lie-in was nigh on impossible though as the very loud road sweeper does the rounds from 8am. Pool was large, a tad cold and no sign of any chlorine. There were 60 sun beds which was never enough. The pool opened at 9am and all beds were taken by 9.30 - some people placing towels and not returning for a good couple of hours or more. There is certainly the space for more. There is a grassed area which was actually quite comfortable so you always got a space somewhere. People from neighbouring apartments also used the pool so it is not exclusive to patrons. The picnic bar and Cactus 2 bar adjacent to the pool were ok and served the usual toasties, chips and cheap beer. Picnic bar had free wifi. The entertainment in the evening in the Cactus Bar was a little dated, working men's club style singing. Ok occasionally but not every night for us. Sheets were changed once and towels changed 3 times but the 3rd time was the day before we left. Alvor itself is pleasant and full of narrow streets full of shops, bars and restaurants with a nice harbour which was great for an afternoon drink although it gets windy which gets annoying and made for some chilly evenings which we didn't expect. There are some great restaurants serving proper cooked fresh food and I would recommend Os Marafados, Vagabondo and Paesano all along the main strip. I would avoid Ze Margadinho at the bottom as the food was rank and service poor - although they were queuing to get in every night. The beach is long with plenty of sun beds and parasols which we were never charged for the 3 times we went. The sea was cold and soon got deep so not ideal for little ones. The boardwalk behind the beach is great for walking and cycling which goes around the lagoon. Overall we had a good family holiday but we would not return to the Dunas and would question it's Thomson 3Tplus rating. More

Good value for money

Just returned from a great week at the Dunas. There are some pictures of great apartments featured on both TripAdvisor and Thomson websites. However, I have to say our apartment, although very spacious and clean was very dated, with kitchen cupboard and oven doors that did not close, and a bathroom that could do with updating. Having said that, it didn't spoil our stay. The Dunas is in a fantastic location - everyone whinging about the lack of sunbeds must be mad - the beach is a five minute walk away, and what a beach it is - miles of golden sand and warm sea, and more sunbeds than you can shake a stick at!!! Buy yourselves a couple of sunshades from the little shop on the complex and some straw mats to put your towel on and you're away for a fraction of the price!! There are loads of restaurants again within a five minute walk, we tried a different one each evening and they were all excellent. All in all a great holidayMore
