Auramar

in Albufeira , Algarve T rating: 3

  • Close to the beach
  • Picturesque views
  • 2 swimming pools
Set high in the cliffs above a sheltered sandy beach, the Auramar has a setting worth writing home about.
Without doubt, this hotel has one of the best settings in Albufeira. It stands alone on rugged cliffs, looking out over a stretch of sandy beach. So not only is it really peaceful, it also enjoys unbroken views over the Atlantic. Best of all, despite the out-of-the-way feel, it’s just a ten-minute walk from the town’s restaurants and bars. The old town, meanwhile, is about two kilometres away – you can walk there along the beach or take the hotel’s courtesy bus.

Location aside, the hotel’s star turn is its main swimming pool. It’s framed by terraces and lawns, and comes with a full complement of sunloungers and palms. Tucked nearby is another pool, complete with more sun terraces. And if you’d rather be by the sea, you can head down the path that runs through the gardens.

Inside, meanwhile, the hotel is spacious and comfortable. It’s the facilities rather than the design that really impress, though – you’ve got everything from an indoor pool to a tennis court and games arcade.

Bedrooms are spread across four pink buildings. In terms of décor, they’re kitted out with light wood furniture, tiled floors and blue-and-yellow soft-furnishings. Extras come in the form of TVs, air-conditioning and balconies.

Lastly, on the food and drink front, the main restaurant offers up global buffets for breakfast and evening meals. Plus, you’ve got a snack bar by the pool.

The eastern side of the town is more bustling with many new hotels shops, and plenty of family restaurants and bars serving local and international cuisine.
