Hotel Falesia

A tropical garden setting gives the Hotel Falesia a really private feel. It’s also got a big TripAdvisor following, and it was rated the best hotel in Albufeira in 2013.

The Hotel Falesia’s good-looking gardens set the scene for a terrace-framed pool and al fresco dining areas. Beyond the gardens is a sandy beach and some of Portugal’s best golf courses.

This hotel does things in style, with a smart restaurant and a spa offering caviar treatments. Luxury room options include junior suites stocked with little extras like bathrobes and slippers.

Second visit in six months to Hotel Paradiso

Looking for wild nights on the Albufeira strip? Don't stop here, then, and leave us old dodderers (I am 40-something!) to enjoy the peace of this excellent hotel. The worst moans you generally find on here include the bathroom grout being dodgy and clientele ancient. That's because older means we're a damn sight wiser! Having said that, my 18-year old son enjoyed dinner with us most nights and loved the food and staff as much as we did. The gorgeous gardens, ample space, therapeutic water feature and ultra pleasant Falesia team make this place rock. You feel valued as a customer. We first stayed here in May and our only disappointment in October was that the fresh orange juice squeezer at breakfast was no longer in situ. But, like the grout wingers, that's being picky. As it was our second trip we were upgraded to a junior suite and received a gift of sweets and port. If you want palm trees swaying in the breeze, total tranquillity and a superb choice of food, you will be hard pressed to find better value. Fishing village Olhas d'Agua is 20 mins walk away, as are the amazing beaches. Thanks to all at the Falesia for another wonderful break away from work-dominated, traffic-jammed, grey skies Britain. Also, thanks again to yellowfishtransfers, the airport taxi firm who never let us down. It's a short transfer from Faro airport by the way, which all adds to the stress-busting recipe for success.More

Very disappointing

We have been to many Thompson Gold hotels but this one was very poor. We did not get off to a good start as we sat on a hot coach at the airport for almost an hour waiting for it to fill up, on arrival our request for a high floor was ignored and after much arm twisting we got a top floor room but had to wait 2 hours before it was ready. The rooms are in poor condition, cracked tiles in the bathroom with fungus and mould on the walls, the toilet seat needed replacing. On arrival our balcony was both dirty and sticky and covered in sand and it remained like that until day 4 when we saw the cleaner and asked her to clean it. The pool looks lovely but is very cold, after my swim I thought it would be a good idea to go to the spa to have a steam to warm up, unfortunatley there was no steam, you had to ask reception to turn it on, but it only came on for a minute, after asking 3 times we gave up on the idea. The breakfasts and deserts were very good but if you do not eat prawns, sqiud or any other sea food there is no much for your main meal, I ended up having a slice of pizza with my salad each evening, something i would not eat at home. The chairs in the dinning room were stained and the chairs in the show lounge were not fit for purpose, old and threadbear, not what you want to sit on in your new colthes. The girls on reception were very nice and helpful as was Gemma the rep and all the thompson team plus Victor who was very interesting on his walks from the hotel to the beach and the honey farm, which we very much enjoyed. We hired a kettle in the evening for the last four days at 2 Euros per day, which was removed after Three and half days they asked for a futher 2 Euros to return it. Gemma the rep kindly sorted it out for us,So well done Gemma and shame on you Felisia.More

Like a comfortable pair of slippers

This was our first visit to the Falesia and overall we thoroughly enjoyed the experience apart from some disappointing weather. Yes, parts of the hotel are somewhat dated but in some ways this adds to the charm. No real complaints like some about the bathroom though my partner did not like the hairdryer. Shower in the bath which would not please some but the water was always wonderfully warm. Generally I would describe the hotel as like a pair of old slippers, bulging a little in places but extremely comfortable. There was an issue with the bedding, which appeared substandard, while I found the bed somewhat uncomfortable. But these little points did nothing to spoil our holiday and the ten days went by much too fast. We could not fault the food, the staff were always professional and the entertainment was usually of good standard. We hardly used the pool area as we like to get out and about but did notice an abundance of flies when the sun was out on the occasions we were down there. Take a fly swat. The hotel has a shuttle bus and we took the return trips to Albufeira (5 euros), Vilamoura (10 euros) and the Mystery Tour (20 euros). The old town at Albufeira has an abundance of good souvenir shops and bars while Vilamoura marina is good for a drink etc though there are plenty of better value bars in the road outside. We enjoyed the Mystery Tour, which visited three villages and was organised by the hotel tour guide Viktor. He is a lovely gentleman (bet he has a pair of comfy slippers), and answers every question you care to put to him through his vast knowledge of the area. Viktor can show you the route to the beach through the adjacent hotel and also organises a walk past the honey farm (lovely for tea and scones one day or to just to chill out). The beach is wonderful - equal to many of the popular ones in the Caribbean - and a clamber through the rocks takes you to the bars of the next village of Olhas d'Agua. The walk the other way to Vilamoura is long and testing through the soft sand.More

Clean and friendly, but only for old people

We picked this hotel because of the reasonable price and good reviews on TA. After arriving we realised it's catering towards retired couples with programmes, music and the general atmosphere for generation 50+. It's also pretty far from Albufeira town, so if you are looking for some party and active holidays I would chose something else. Breakfast and Dinner were good quality though, even if the house red was horrible. The room was spacious and clean if a bit dated, but good value for the money.More
