Billy the Fish...

Last year on holiday we met 'Billy'. We noticed Billy had no tail and had to wiggle his little body ten times faster than all his fishy tailed friends. We visited the hotel's large pond at least twice a day to watch him trying to keep up with his friends, diving and swooshing, deep and shallow but always last. On the last day of our holiday we visited Billy to say , "goodbye" thinking that even if he survived, we would never see him again......😢🐟😢🐟😢🐟🙂🐟 .....We arrived back this year and immediately went to the large pond to see if Billy had survived. I know we are a 'sad' couple but it has made our holiday already to see Billy, bigger and stronger, still struggling to keep up with his friends, but still part of the shoal........we fed him a bit of bread this morning...😘🐟😘🐟😘🐟...Meanwhile we are loving the hotel, lovely staff and newly refurbished suite. 👏🏻😊🐟More

Excellent yet again...

Just back from another week at the Falesia (our 4th visit) in the last 5 years. We gave it a miss last year because we felt the rooms were becoming dated and a little tired (even though everything else about our stays had been very good.) But the recent refurbishment has completely transformed the rooms to a new level. The decor and modern lighting coupled with the amazing new bathroom with walk-in shower really does lift the place. At the risk of repeating all the positives of previous trips I can perhaps summarise as follows: Hotel Staff - wonderful across all departments. Noticeable how many new, young (trainee?) staff were employed this year but they were all well drilled in the customer care ethos of the hotel. Couple of mentions: Odette - thank you for keeping our room spotless; Rui on Reception - minor problem sorted quickly and efficiently; Julianna on the Pool Bar - feisty but great with guests and efficient. Entertainment Staff - Harry (bing-bong), Amy and Josh - great mix of young vibrant talent who bounce off each other and thoroughly enjoy what they do. Always happy to engage with guests with a genuine "feel good" attitude that adds to the holiday experience - even in temperatures of 37 degrees! Rooms - see above. My usual pet gripe though.....charging 2.5 Euros a day for the safe is still in my opinion a way for the hotel (and all other hotels who do this) to rip off loyal customers. 2.5 Euros a day x 7 days (average stay) x 169 rooms x say 20 weeks high season (Late May - mid September) = best part of 60,000 Euros!!!! Grrrrrrr. Gardens - stunning! So relaxing for those who don't want to "roast" on poolside. Dozens of carp swimming in the ponds dotted around the gardens. Pool - excellent size with plenty of room for swimmers and non-swimmers alike. Sunbeds - we never struggled to get one on poolside despite often coming down after 9.00 am. Even if you did, there are still plenty scattered around the beautiful gardens. Food and Restaurant - plenty of choice both at breakfast and dinner. Bit repetitive at breakfast with little change daily from the usual fry-up or continental. Dinner much more choice and a different theme on most nights. Some strange salad concoctions but all edible. Wi-fi - free (yay!!!) and excellent connection in rooms and circulating areas. Location - For us "excellent" away from the busy centre but within 20 minutes walking distance of the beaches - and the hotel offers a bus service to the beach and to the nearest towns. For first timers looking to book the hotel why not check out Google Maps and balance this with the feedback on TA. Overall an excellent hotel an holiday. Glad we returned and will do so again without doubt in the near future.More

July 2016

We had an amazing week spent at the Falesia Hotel, it is pure relaxation at this hotel! Room was lovely, was obviously quite newly refurbished! Bathroom was great with a massive shower! Pool area is lovely and clean, the pool bar is great and lovely to relax around in the evening! Armen is a credit to the hotel, normally works at the pool bar in the evening, he is very funny and welcoming! There is not to much around the hotel but that didn't stop us exploring we got taxis etc and had a great trip one afternoon on a tuk tuk! The hotel mainly has the older adults there but even though us being in our mid twenties, we did not mind! Over all a great hotel definitely worth 4 stars!! More

Kelly I,

Relaxing holiday in the sun

We visited for a week in July and stayed in a junior suite. The hotel is freshly refurbished and because of this the rooms are lovely. They are very clean with awesome showers and plenty of space. The room had 2 large TVs with a couple of English channels and even USB sockets for charging your devices without need to use a plug adaptor. The only negative points with the rooms are the beds which are 2 singles pushed together and squeak loudly every time you move and the fact that you are required to pay €2.50 a day for the use of the fridge which is frankly appalling when you consider how much you have paid for your stay in the first place. The hotel has a large but shallow pool area with an outside bar and also more sun loungers in the gardens which was a nice place to soak up the sun but we did find unless you get there early you couldn't get a sun lounger because there wasn't enough to go around. The other negative in regard to this area is that during the morning aqua aerobics class the Thomson entertainment team had the music so loud it hurt your ears if you where within 200m of the area. The food was mostly very nice although sometimes lacked variety and watch out for the price of bottled water and spirits in the restaurant... yikes!! If you pay the fine for daring to use the fridge in your room there is a brilliant little supermarket if you turn left at the entrance to the hotel where you can buy anything you want for lunch and to drink during the day. The hotel also does a daily shuttle bus to the town which is worth using if you want to go into the town as it is much cheaper than a taxi. It is also worth mentioning that the average visitor to the hotel is the mature/very mature person so much so that at times it felt like holidaying in an up market old folks home. Overall this a very nice quiet hotel with lovely friendly staff and well worth a visit. More

y2soapface,

Just Great

I haven't been back to Portugal for 20 plus years. So on a few tripadvisor reviews and also visiting gold hotels before - thought this was the hotel to stay. It didn't disappoint, the hotel is a credit to the staff and management. Everything from the food to the entertaiment is spot on! Yes everyone finds little niggles here and there (mine being the drinks in bars, restaurants a little over priced?) but coudn't fault anything else. The staff are really friendly and make you feel very welcome - I would definately return to this hotel and will not be leaving it as long to visit Portugal again.More
