Fancy lying on one of the best beaches in the Med? Better put Becici on your map. In the southern Adriatic near the charming city of Budva, Becici is a modern, touristy town with a selection of good quality hotels climbing the pine-dotted hills behind its waterfront. This place is totally dedicated to holidaymakers and with a beach like it has, it’s not hard to understand why. A spectacular three-kilometre belt of sand and fine pebbles, it’s a joy to lounge and dream away the day on. The blue waters of the Adriatic shimmer like diamonds, seeming even brighter against the backdrop of jagged coastal mountains. Watersports vendors tempt you out on the gentle waves in canoes or pedaloes. Giggling children splash at the water’s edge. Lie back, run your fingers through the sand and your worries should dissolve away in minutes. Elsewhere, the colourful shops and cafes of Becici’s original fishing village hover expectantly at a far end of the promenade. Rummage around for the little curios they sell before relaxing at a pavement cafe with some chilled, golden wine and a plateful of goat’s cheese and ham drizzled in olive oil, the national delicacy. When you fancy some historic charm, stroll along the seafront to Budva or hop on the small train. Enclosed by 15th century fortifications, Budva’s red-tiled old town is pure delight. Lose yourself in its cobbled streets, nose around its shops and amble around its pretty, restaurant-filled squares. If want to stay up late, this is where to stay. While Becici stays laid-back after dark, Budva’s main seafront is packed with bars and outdoor discos to keep you from your bed.
