Guide to St Paul's Bay

'St. Paul's is great for combining the charm of old-time Malta with the buzz of the new.'

St. Paul's is perfect if you like a little of everything on your holiday. What's it to be? A meander around the harbourside with its jauntily painted luzzu bobbing in the water? A coffee and pastizzi on the quayside followed by a sunbathe on the rocks? Lunch at an al fresco fish restaurant? If so, you're brilliantly catered for. St. Paul's harbour area overflows with acclaimed eateries serving up some of Malta's best seafood. Then there's strolling around the quaint streets and tourist shops that make up the old village. Here, you'll discover the handsome St. Paul's church, marking the spot where St. Paul himself burned a viper to rid Malta of poisonous snakes. Stroll a bit further into the up-and-coming Xemxija area and you'll come across another fascinating shrine – the Apostle's Fountain, where St. Paul baptised the first Maltese Christians. Elsewhere, more modern activities clamour for your attention. Wander along Bugibba's bustling seafront to find its bevy of boutiques, shops and restaurants. Keep heading east and the smarter stores of Qawra start demanding your time. Or take a day out at Sweethaven, the movie set village created for the film 'Popeye' in a nearby bay. The choices don't end when night falls either. How about the bright lights of Bugibba's karaoke bars? A flutter at its casino or film at the cinema? Or maybe a lingering supper at that romantic harbour restaurant you discovered at lunch? The beauty of St. Paul's is that it's all right at your fingertips.
