The Hilton is a Maltese luxury. It’s a grand sandy-coloured building with a smart marina on one side and the sea on the other. It’s set on a rocky beach with its own private beach club during the summer, and it’s only five minutes from the nearest nightlife.
Inside, it’s as grand as you’d expect from the Hilton name tag. The lobby is double height and comes with a galleried reception upstairs, and a restaurant - complete with an indoor fountain - below. This is the place for buffets, and they’re pretty elaborate. At breakfast, as well as fresh pastries and juices, there are also special egg stations where you decide how you want yours cooked. Dinner, meanwhile, pulls out all the stops. Expect Mediterranean dishes like antipasti and swordfish. Elsewhere, there’s the Blue Elephant restaurant for Thai favourites and the Bottega del Vino for Italian.
The same level of effort and attention to detail extends into the bedrooms. They’re big enough to sleep three comfortably and are decorated in an elegant, pared-down style. Beds with filigree-work bed-heads sit between chunky bedside tables topped with over-sized lamps. Extras like tea-and-coffee kits and satellite TVs add the finishing touches.
To round things off, you’ve got a great choice of things to do. Outside, there’s a sun terrace with four pools, plenty of sunbeds, and palms for a spot of shade. More active pastimes come in the form of a gym, tennis and aqua aerobics. Little ones get a pretty good deal here, too – they get two paddle pools and a hotel-run kids’ club during the summer.
