Hotel Mellieha Bay

in Mellieha Bay , Malta T rating: 4

  • Prime seafront location
  • Family rooms
  • Private sandy beach
“Tucked in gardens, overlooking its own private beach, the Hotel Mellieha Bay is a prime island slice.”
This place has clinched a top spot on Malta’s biggest bay. It sits comfortably in seven acres of gardens, with one of the island’s few sandy beaches on the doorstep. Plus, it’s just a ten-minute bus ride from the hilltop village of Mellieha, where you’ll find plenty in the way of bars and restaurants.

The hotel itself is a long, modern number. Outside, it’s yellow and blue, and the coastal theme carries through to the interior. The bedrooms are a case in point. They’re decked out in an ocean-inspired colour scheme, with cool aquamarine walls and blue-green soft furnishings. They all look out towards the bay, and family rooms have interconnecting doors - so the children get their own space.

On the subject of families, this place is well geared up all round. Outside, as well as two good-sized pools for adults, there are two just for paddling. There’s a playground out here, and two snack bars, so lunch is within easy reach. And you’ll find a private beach just at the bottom of the palm-filled gardens, so you can be on the sandy shore in seconds.

On the food front, meals are buffet-style. Expect big breakfasts with bacon and eggs. In the evening, Mediterranean specialities like cous-cous and almond cake are on the menu. And in summer, dining moves outside for barbecues by the pool.
