The beach at Mellieha Bay is clean and gently shelving, with golden sand and shallow water making it ideal for children. It boasts stunning views across the azure waters of the Mediterranean Sea, with long, rocky headlands giving the bay a secluded, protected feel. Across the road from the beach is the Ghadira Nature Reserve - a small lake inhabited by various species of bird and plant. Observation posts are dotted around the reserve, so you can easily observe Malta's stunning birdlife. Alternatively, take a step back in time with a visit to the Grand Master's palace, cathedral and museum at Valletta. Boat trips are popular - check out the Ggantija temples, citadel and fishing village at Gozo or head inside the hauntingly beautiful caves of the Blue Grotto.
