La Colombaia 2 Bedroom Apartment  

Set in undulating acres of olive groves, vineyards and orchards just north of the Arno Valley and within an hour's drive of Florence and Pisa, La Colombaia is perfectly placed for visiting northern Tuscany's most famous landmarks. This recently-renovated farmhouse is just a couple of miles from the delightful little town of Vinci, birthplace of Leonardo, and the town boasts a museum in its ancient castle featuring nearly a hundred models of the inventions of the town's most famous son. La Colombaia is an enchanting place for whiling away summer afternoons, whether basking in the sun by the lovely pool or relaxing in the shade of the weeping willow in the garden. Local bird-life inspired the names of each apartment, displayed on beautiful hand-crafted tiles. Similar attention to detail was given to the light and spacious interiors of the eight apartments. Each apartment is equipped for simple self-catering, but guests may find themselves eschewing the pots and pans in the mornings as breakfast is available for a small charge.

The friendly and hospitable owners, Daniele and Elena, go to great lengths to ensure that their guests have a relaxing and memorable stay at La Colombaia. The farmhouse still produces its own olive oil and wine and Daniele will proudly show his wine cellar to his guests. Guests are also welcome to help themselves to the fresh vegetables from the couple's vegetable garden - tasty courgettes and cucumbers in July and juicy tomatoes and peppers during August.
The region around La Colombaia is not only renowned for its Chianti Putto wine, but also for a multitude of generations-old crafts. Montelupo Fiorentino is famed for its beautiful, hand-painted ceramics, and some of the other nearby villages produce fine leather goods. A lovely way of seeing the Chianti countryside in all of its green glory is to hire one of the bicycles that are for the guests' use at La Colombaia and push off past the olive groves, vineyards and fields of watermelon.
