Dating back to the Fifties, this hotel is the colour of rich vanilla ice-cream. Add that to the wrought-iron balconies and spacious terracotta-tiled lobby, and you’ve got a place with plenty of Italian charm. That’s not to say it isn’t up-to-date though. It’s been renovated in recent years so there’s a contemporary edge to the place.
Take the bedrooms for instance. Fresh white walls provide a blank canvas for brightly-coloured soft-furnishings and carved dark-wood furniture. It’s a pretty classic set-up, butut modern touches like Wi-Fi, electronically controlled blinds and flatscreen TVs give things a contemporary kick.
In the lounge and restaurant the stylish vibe continues. Leather Chesterfield-style sofas dot the room, while twinkling chandeliers and gilt-framed mirrors add a glamorous feel. In the restaurant area, meanwhile, crisp white tablecloths and heavy swag curtains set the tone. On the food front, there’s a tempting mix of Italian and international cuisine on the menu, plus a wine list that showcases the best of the region’s vineyards.
Lastly, there’s the matter of location. This hotel couldn’t be in a better spot. You’ll find it in the heart of Viareggio’s main promenade. There’s a soft sandy beach just over the road and the picturesque town centre is less than a ten-minute walk away.

My husband and I stayed at The President for one week (Jul 09) and had a wonderful time. The room we had was of an average size with a view to the side of the hotel which was fine although if we booked again we would request a frontal view with a balcony... more on this review
