It might look unassuming from the outside - it’s a small four-storey, whitewashed hotel with wrought-iron balconies curling from its walls - but inside, it’s been treated to the ultimate makeover.
The glamour of old-world Tuscany is still evident in the high ceilings and marble floors. But in terms of looks, it’s more chrome and glass than terracotta and oak. Take the lobby bar as an example. It has a mood-lit black lacquer counter and funky funnel-shaped bar stools.
As for the bedrooms, they score just as many points on style. The blueberry and hazelnut colour scheme looks good enough to eat. Wall art comes in the form of mirrored panels. And there are buttons for everything – opening the door, dimming the lights and opening and closing the curtains. Factor in balconies and you’ve got the perfect sanctuary.
Outside, there’s a roof garden with loungers, pot plants and widescreen sea views – it sets the scene for post-sightseeing relaxation. But the pièce de résistance is the location. You’re just a few seconds from the beach, and Caffe Margherita - the favourite haunt of composer Puccini - is just across the road.
