"This ancient village is delightful with spectacular views over the surrounding countryside. The area is rustic but not remote and is good for visiting many historic sites."
In the middle of the southeast countryside the village is surrounded by gentle rolling hills from the city of Siena through to the Mediterranean coast and from the top of Radicondoli you might be able to see the tall towers of San Gimignano during the day and the lights of Volterra at night. This ancient village with its original Medieval protective walls is rustic but not remote and is good for visiting many historic sites.
Many interesting towns and villages are within easy reach, including San Gimignano and Volterra, famous for its alabaster workshops. Both are about an hour's journey by car. Tuscany's crowning jewel, the city of Florence is a bit further afield at two hours drive.

When the weather is hot and you fancy a paddle or a swim there are two small rivers below the town where you can take a dip and cool down, or the Mediterranean coast is just over an hour's drive away via some country roads where you will find all the sandy beaches you could possibly want. Take the coastal road down to San Vincenzo if time allows – the town is surrounded by lush greenery and has the best beach and sports facilities along this stretch of the coast, as well as a large park and a pretty marina.
Start the day with an Italian breakfast of coffee and croissant, filled with jam, custard or chocolate - then move on to lunch. There are three excellent restaurants serving good traditional Tuscan food - Radicondoli is known for its country recipes including wild boar, home-made pasta, fresh vegetables from the local farms, and red and white wine from the nearby vineyards, excelling especially in red Chianti wine. Thin-crusted pizzas can be found in the pizzeria and there are two cappuccino bars where you can idle away an hour or two while you watch the villagers hard at work.
A relaxing holiday in Tuscany also means a relaxing time in the evenings, but if you are able to hire a car there are plenty of nearby towns you can visit if you would like some different scenery for your evening stroll. For an energetic night out you will find that the coastal towns have plenty of action from live music in the bars to lively discos - perfect after relaxing and topping up your tan on the beach all day.
The town has to serve a mix of visitors and local customers so the shops in Radicondoli mainly sell typical local produce of fresh fruit and vegetables. You will also find a bakery where you can buy your early morning croissant and lunchtime panini, a post office, tobacconist and a bank.
The pretty village of Radicondoli with its narrow stepped streets is set in a striking landscape with magnificent uninterrupted views over the Cecina valley – the hills, woods, dotted castles scattered throughout the hillside, vineyards and olive groves making it an excellent place for walking, cycling and horseriding. There is a golf course which is approximately 1 hour's drive away.
The pretty town of Casole d'Elsa lies 15km to the north of Radicondoli, Florence is 75km away, and Pisa, 110km.
