"A vibrant treasure trove brimming with cultural history, Pisa stimulates your mind and senses."
What do you think of when someone says Pisa to you? The leaning tower perhaps? Granted that is the main attraction, but climb to the top of the tower and you will discover dozens of other places to visit. The medieval and Renaissance buildings spread before you to explore. Only don't be tempted to experiment with the law of gravity like the fifteenth-century scientist Galileo who dropped stones off the top of the tower. Admire the stunning marble edifices of the Cathedral, Baptistery, and the Camposanto (a cemetery) and their related museums - all set in marvellous, lush green spaces. Take a walking tour and exchange your views with other visitors on the wonderful frescoes in the Museo delle Sinopie or the marvellous early Renaissance paintings by Tuscan artists in the Museo Nazionale di San Matteo. Walk along the Lungarno - the embankment - and imagine what it would be like to live in one of the waterfront palazzos. At lunchtime, savour some bruschetta and then begin the hunt to find the oldest botanical gardens in Europe. Sit near the giant exotic plants and watch the students coming and going to their lectures. Fancy a spot of shopping? The Borgo Stretto is a paradise for jewellery, leather, clothes, homeware, and pottery. Or for a really fun way to spend, ramble round the markets. In Via Buonarotti and Via San Martino they're bustling with colourful characters , while in Piazza Vittorio manuelle II you can pass the time with farmers who sell exotic, medieval-style foods like cheeses. Then rest in Piazza Cavalieri – like the Italians do – and enjoy your coffee watching over the lively streets.
