Zampugna Ginepro

An introduction to Zampugna Ginepro

This captivating farmhouse has proven to be one of the properties most highly praised by our guests - both for the quality of the accommodation and for the hospitality of the charming owners. Zampugna enjoys a stunning position in the beautiful hills between Tuscany's two brilliant Renaissance jewels, Montepulciano and Pienza.

Reached along approximately 2km of 'white' road, past the vineyards and olive groves of the owner, Zampugna sits in a glorious landscape surrounded by the grainy green of woodlands seeping into the billowing golds of fields of wheat and sunflowers. Zampugna's surroundings are so quintessentially Tuscan - rolling hills, cypress trees and medieval hilltop villages - that this area was selected to provide the setting for the filming of A Midsummer's Night's Dream and The English Patient.

Zampugna embodies too the unique essence of Tuscany, for when this fine old farmhouse was converted into five superb apartments (plus a small but completely independent cottage), the original beams, cotto floors, roof tiles and brick arches were retained. Top quality furnishings complement Zampugna's traditional character and for cooler early and late season evenings, each apartment has its own working fireplace, while the cottage has a rare antique ceramic wood-burning stove. Living/dining rooms have a satellite television and a smart kitchenette.

To the front of the property is a splendid al fresco dining and barbecue area, from which the vista stretches to Montepulciano and Pienza. The swimming pool is well located to enable you to enjoy the peace and glorious views of this prime location.

The Renaissance town of Pienza (6km) has as much to please the palate as the eye. After viewing the harmonious proportions of the Piazza Pio and exploring the Duomo and the Palazzo Piccolomini, one can wander down back streets lined with tiny shops offering local honey, olive oil and pecorino cheese. In the other direction from Zampugna and only a little further, is hilltop Montepulciano, where you can buy the wine to go with the cheese - the celebrated Vino Nobile. Other alcoholic delights can be enjoyed at Montalcino, and arty ones at the Abbey of Monte Oliveto and at San Quirico. For dabbling in culture and gastronomy, while enjoying the finest of home comforts, tranquillity and vistas worthy of academy awards, Zampugna is just perfect.
