An introduction to Il Torrino Magnifico
Nestling discreetly against a steep hillside, the three picturesque buildings that constitute Il Torrino enjoy a lovely outlook across a lush, densely forested valley.
Converted from an 18th-century watchtower and farmhouse, Il Torrino has been very cleverly designed and landscaped, so that each of the seven apartments has its own rather private terrace, equipped with a barbecue and screened by the wonderfully mature vegetation of the splendid grounds.
Although the property feels deliciously rural, its location in the very centre of the triangle formed by Florence, Siena and Pisa makes it an excellent base for those keen on immersing themselves in Renaissance art and architecture. Closer to home, you will find enchanting hill towns and villages, providing a good choice of restaurants. The nearest, a pizzeria on the edge of Montaione, is just a kilometre away and the centre of this village, marked by a beautiful belvedere, is just two kilometres away. Other good places to eat are the nearby little spa town of Gambassi Terme or, a little further afield, the larger town of Certaldo.
The stunning monastery and chapels of San Vivaldo are just a ten-minute drive away, and the magnificent medieval towers of San Gimignano can also be reached in around half an hour. However, no-one staying at Il Torrino would want to spend all their time away exploring, for its woodland setting is very conducive to complete relaxation, while its excellent facilities provide scope for the more actively inclined. In addition to the well-designed swimming pool with its separate shallow pool for children, Il Torrino also boasts a tennis court situated on the edge of the forest. The forest itself beckons keen walkers.
