In fact, from the moment you step foot into the San Pietro's courtyard with its ancient wishing well, you'll understand why this place is so special. And with just ten hotel rooms and four apartments, you'll never find yourself being treated like a room number. More an old friend. Most people make a beeline straight for the pool. And who could blame them? Sunk into a pretty tiled patio, it's flanked by lush lawns with sun loungers and of course, those gorgeous views of the countryside. And if you tire of tanning, there's table tennis and a small football courtyard. Or why not hop in the car and explore your local surroundings? Charming Cortona is just a 10 minute drive away. Here you'll find plenty of shops to pop your head in and out of, as well as bars and restaurants. Or head for Lake Trasimeno, which has a sandy manmade beach, watersports and eateries. And further afield Siena, Arezzo and Montepulciano make lovely days out. However you spend your time here, your restful room will be waiting. Whitewashed with traditional furnishings and an al fresco eating area, they're just the ticket at the end of the day.

We used public transport throughout our stay, which was very cheap and easy to use, as neither of us fancied driving although a hire car was part of the deal. The accomadation was first class but you did need to walk about 500yds to nearest shop and... more on this review
