La Casetta Coreglia

in Coreglia Antelminelli , Tuscany

  • Picturesque retreat
  • Traditional décor
  • Neighbouring villa
Snuggled into a small valley, this stone cottage has plenty of rustic charm and quiet. Swim, hike or read - here it’s all about the go-slow pace.
Hidden away in a small valley a few kilometres below Coreglia Antelminelli and surrounded on all sides by forest – La Casetta is a comfy, rural retreat.

Inside, it’s all stone floors and beamed ceilings, so there’s a traditional, farmhouse feel to the place. Antique furniture and a wood-burning stove add to the old-world charm and huge windows let you enjoy snap shots of the surrounding wooded valley. At the same time, modern kitchen units, a dishwasher and a CD player ensure contemporary creature comforts aren’t neglected.

On the ground floor there’s a big open-plan lounge, dining room and kitchen, as well as a twin bedroom and bathroom with an additional separate shower. Open wooden stairs – unsuitable for small children – lead up to the second twin bedroom on the first floor.

Outside, you’ll find the small private swimming pool in a fenced garden with a grassed area, sun-loungers and a shaded pergola alongside. La Casetta shares its leafy woodland setting with just one neighbour – the converted watermill, Il Vecchio Mulino, which belongs to the same owner. While the two places are far enough away from each other to be private, they’re handy if you’re coming away in a large group.

Your guide to Coreglia Antelminelli, Tuscany

"Northwest of Castelnuovo de Garfagnana in northern Tuscany lies a mountainous nature reserve – Parco Naturale delle Alpi Apuane. It is here, to the east of the little walled town of Barga that you’ll find Coreglia Antelminelli."

Its main claim to fame is a plaster figurine museum, the Museo della Figurina di Gesso, which tells you the history of these local products, once sold by traders all over Europe. Coreglia Antelminelli is an excellent base for exploring, though you’ll probably need a car as some areas are inaccessible any other way. Drive south and both natural beauty and man-made attractions await you.., Marvel at the Giant’s Cooking Pots – huge hollows left by the glacial meltwaters of the Ice Age. You are also within easy driving distance of the beautiful Roman town Lucca, the beaches of Viareggio on the coast and Torre del Lago Puccini, where the famous operatic composer lived and is buried.

Stayed here in July and found the accommodation to be both comfortable and spotless. The house is down a pretty long and incredibly bumpy track. While it is close to the village of Coreglia, the road down from the village is not really walkable at... more on this review
