Villa Oasis Residence

The newly opened Villa Oasis Residence couldn't be in a better spot. Set on the seafront in the resort of Mazzeo, it serves up clear views across an open stretch of beach. Plus the centre of Taormina is just 20 minutes away by cable car, car or on the bus that stops outside the apartments. So it's perfectly placed for exploring.

The simple stone-clad exterior of the Villa Oasis gives no hint of what lies beneath. Mixing modern minimalism with French-salon styling, the owners have created 15 beautiful apartments. The white-on-white colour scheme creates a Zen-like atmosphere. Espresso and latte-coloured accessories provide a touch of colour, and lattice-work cupboard doors hark back to provincial France.

As for the layout, each apartment is essentially one big room, though the bedroom and living area are divided by a French-look sideboard and bookcase. They've kept furnishings to a minimum, with the emphasis on quality rather than quantity. In the bedroom, you'll find a curtained-off wardrobe, a double bed and a couple of bedside tables. In the lounge area, meanwhile, there's a double sofa-bed tucked into an alcove and a dining table and chairs for four.

Leading off from the main living space, there's a wetroom-style bathroom. And hidden behind a folding lattice screen there's a dinky kitchen with a full-sized sink, cooker and fridge-freezer. Every apartment comes with a spacious balcony or terrace as well, complete with tables and chairs. Some even come with sea views, too.
