"Marina d'Agro is serene and secluded, yet close to the action - and mama mia, what amazing views."
If we're talking scenic beauty, they don't come much more ravishing than Sicily's Ionian Coast. And if you want to avoid the crowds, Marina d'Agro is the place to head. Think tiny fishing hamlet. Think gorgeous blue waters. Think traditional atmosphere. The idyllic image you have in your head probably won't be far off the mark. This charming little village has a truly exclusive feel and simply oozes Sicilian charm, from its stunning backdrop of tree-clad hills to its pretty little shingle beach. At the same time, you're far from being isolated. Just four miles down the road you'll find the cable car station, where you can take the breathtaking journey up to Taormina - Sicily's most beautiful and trendiest town. Whatever you do though, don't miss the Teatro Greco, a stunning Greco-Roman amphitheatre which overlooks the sea. Drive a little further to the lively resort of Giardini Naxos, where there are plenty of open-air bars to sit and sip a refreshing cafe freddo and tuck in to a delicious piece of panettone. Back in Marina d'Agro, evening entertainment mainly revolves around drinking and dining. But if you choose the right eating establishment your pizza or pasta will not only come with your choice of mouth-watering Sicilian wines, but also breathtaking views which you'll be hankering for long after you've shaken the sand from your suitcase.
