Anyone for tennis? Or golf or watersports or horse-riding? Activity enthusiasts will be in their element in lively little Cannigione, situated in one of the many inlets or 'rias' along the island's Gallura Coast. The excellent watersports centre offers all the usual aquatic attractions, including windsurfing, sailing and waterskiing. And on land there are facilities for everything from football to mini-golf. Alternatively, grab yourself a tutti frutti from a gelataria and head for the beach. There are several superb stretches of sand to choose from between the Saline Gulf and Arzachena, including the wonderful Isuledda, close to Cannigione. If you have an uncontrollable urge to do some shopping you won't be disappointed, and there are also plenty of places to eat, from traditional trattorias and fish restaurants to pizzerias. For a fun day out, take to the water for a boat trip to La Maddalena island. There you'll find a quaint old port, some beautiful scenery and a number of exquisite little beaches. Alternatively, pull on your walking boots and set off for the summit of Punta Occhione, where you can enjoy an eye-popping panoramic view across the Arzachena Gulf from the Roccia dell'Orso to Capo Ferro. For history fans, inland there are several good examples of Sardinia's ancient stone towers or 'nuraghi', which date back several thousand years. And if birdwatching is your thing, you can head up to the top of the Gulf of Arzachena, where there are some wetlands which are home to several rare species.
