Villa Donzell

in Alghero , Sardinia

  • Tranquil retreat
  • Typical Sardinian style
  • Outdoor kitchen
Decorated in a traditional Sardinian style, this sweet villa is the ideal ‘get away from it all’
One of the best things about a Mediterranean escape is eating al fresco, and here at Villa Donzell, it’s the unique, open-air kitchen everyone will remember. What could be more Italian than cooking locally-caught fish on the outdoor BBQ? Plus, with traditional, wooden furniture, a kidney-shaped pool and beautifully tended gardens, it makes a lovely Sardinian retreat.

At the heart of the villa is a large living room with terracotta floors and an open fireplace. And as well as the outdoor kitchen, there’s also a small, fully-equipped indoor one. The simple twin and spacious double bedroom share a shower room and overlook the gardens. Upstairs, meanwhile, and accessed via a separate entrance and steep external stairs, is the third, twin bedroom and shower room. It’s a great hideaway for teens or those wanting a little more privacy. It’s not great for tall people, though, due to the sloped ceiling.

You can relax here in total peace and privacy, enjoying views of uninterrupted countryside, but when the world beyond beckons, it’s only a 10 to 15 minute drive to the beach and the rampart restaurants in Alghero.

Your guide to Alghero, Sardinia

"A coastline edged with secluded bays, a 12th-century walled town and an interior blanketed in vineyards – Alghero showcases Sardinia at its best."

Founded in the 12th-century, Alghero is a delightful, old walled town, drizzled in beauty, culture and history. Occupied by the Catalans for over four hundred years, Spanish influence is everywhere - from the seven defensive towers proudly guarding the harbour to the flamboyant churches visible behind pale bastion walls and the Catalan street signs to the melodic local dialect, touches of Spain remain. Hiding behind the town walls, you'll discover tiny, cobbled streets meandering beneath wrought-iron, flower-filled balconies and shuttered windows. Cosmopolitan shops, genteel bars and sophisticated hotels add to Alghero's elegant air.
