Holidays to Fasano give you a pretty whitewashed town, a short hop from Puglia’s sun-bleached coastline.
Town meets beach
Set on flat green plains in the heart of Puglia, Fasano dates back to Roman times. Cue an old town brimming with mini-passageways, centuries-old churches and elegant squares. As for the beach, the nearby shoreline is sprinkled with tucked-away coves and lively lidos.
For sand and sea, jump in a hire car and head 10 minutes towards the small coastal town of Savelletri. Here, you’ll find solitary caves and buzzier lidos armed with cafés and bars. And they’re all mixed in with 16th-century watchtowers, olive groves and ancient ruins.
Exploring the area
The surrounding countryside is home to postcard-perfect villages and thriving olive groves. Look out for trulli – the region’s traditional cone-roofed houses in Alberobello. Just 25 minutes’ drive from Fasano, this UNESCO-rated site is packed with the quirky, hobbit-style homes.
