Your guide to Sorrento, Neapolitan Riviera
“With buzzing Vespas winding through narrow backstreets and red chillies hanging from shop doorways, Sorrento offers up an authentic slice of Italy.”
This classic townhouse-style hotel is footsteps from Sorrento’s main square, Piazza Tasso.
The Hotel Astoria is just 200 metres from Sorrento’s main square, Piazza Tasso, which is known as the town’s living room for all its restaurants and cafés. The hotel is also a 15-minute walk from Marina Piccola, where you can catch a ferry to the islands of Ischia and Capri, and a 3-minute walk from the Circumvesuvia railway station, where you can board trains to Naples and Pompeii.
The architecture of the hotel is classically Italian, with arched entranceways and Juliette balconies. Inside, the colour scheme is bright throughout. Communal areas are spearmint and buttercup, and bedrooms take their cue from the two things Sorrento’s most famous for – the Mediterranean Sea and lemons. Each room comes with a balcony, and some have views of the Sedile Dominova – one of Sorrento’s most historical buildings.
The restaurant puts on a buffet breakfast of pastries, cheeses, cold meats and coffee. You can take your food out into the pretty courtyard garden and dine al fresco. There isn’t a dinner service here, but there are hundreds of restaurants on the hotel’s doorstep, and a hotel bar for aperitifs or digestifs.
