An introduction to Mezzatorre Resort & Spa

There’s a touch of Arabia about this hotel. Built around a 16th-century watchtower, terracotta exteriors and White parapets. There are even Bedouin-style gazebos sprinkled around its grounds.

But don’t be deceived. The Mezzatorre is every inch the swish Italian inside. There’s the lobby - a White cocoon dressed with cream drapes and funky mirrors. Next is the Chandelier restaurant. A vision of starched linen, its tables are set with gleaming candelabras at night - perfect for romantic dinners. Guests rave about the breakfasts here - eggs are cooked to order by tall-hatted chefs and there’s a lavish selection of fresh fruit and pastries, too. What’s more, you eat on the outdoor terrace accompanied by gorgeous bay views.

Standing on a rocky outcrop, the hotel gazes out over the Mediterranean in one direction and pinewooded gardens in the other. There’s nothing else here, so for solitude, it’s perfect. However, there’s a regular courtesy bus into nearby Lacco Ameno. Just over a kilometre away, it’s walkable, too.

The pool is in a prime spot as well. Set into a terrace over a rocky cove, it’s flanked by sunloungers and thatched parasols. At one end, you’ll find a palm-roofed restaurant serving rustic Neapolitan dishes. And close by is the spa, with its indoor thermal pools and shiatsu massages.

Finally, the standard rooms are a symphony of burnt oranges and creams, with billowing drapes framing doors to balconies overlooking the gardens. Alternatively, you can upgrade to a superior room, offering panoramic or partial views over the bay.
