An introduction to Capri

When it comes to holidays, Capri conjures up romantic notions of stunning scenery, shimmering sunsets and magical grottoes, bathed in blue light reflected from the azure waters of the Bay of Naples. But before you start packing, a word of warning for those on a budget. With its jet set image, the island is not really the place for bargain holidays or last minute, cheap getaways. However, if you find the beautiful landscapes and the idea of rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous simply irresistible, holidays to Capri are the bees knees.

The majority of hotels on Capri are located in and around the two major towns, the bustling island capital, Capri Town and quieter Anacapri. The hotels are mostly elegant, villa style properties with traditional atmospheres, rather than Mediterranean-style super resorts for all inclusive holidays. In fact, considering it's only 4 miles long by 1.5 miles wide, Capri probably has one of the biggest concentrations of luxury hotels you'll find anywhere in the world, with no less than four 5 star hotels and a dozen or so 4 star establishments.

Capri isn't renowned for its beaches, although the ones in the south west corner of the island are pretty good and offers sunbeds, watersports etc. However, one thing sun seekers can find on Capri is solitude. There are numerous small coves where you can escape the crowds and catch some rays in relative peace and quiet, although you may need a boat to get there.
