This hotel is absolutely amazing! On arrival they brought us orange juice and gave us a lovely welcome. They provide a very welcoming atmosphere and you can ask anyone for assistance and they do their best to help you. Rooms are lovely very modern and spacious. The hotel all round is immaculately clean. Highly recommend. More

Lovely Hotel - Lovely Staff
We stayed at the Contessina in September for 2 weeks, as we were getting married in Tsilivi. On arrival, we were given some welcome drinks (soft!) and shortly after shown to our room. We were directly above reception/bar, with a pool view. Spacious room, cleaned every day & fresh towels. On the day of the wedding, the staff couldnt do enough for us. Constantly checking up on us, bringing fresh towels and ice, (for 6 ladies trying to get ready in 30 degrees!) We booked a second room for the day, which was opposite so we could move freely between the two and they gave us a bargain with free air con. after the wedding, we came back to champagne in the room and a congratulations card, and a Just Married banner on the door. there were even balloons. Following morning, 2 lovely ladies came dancing into our room with MORE balloons and breakfast in bed. it was perfect. Breakfast every day was great, the poached eggs are faultless. great location, 2 minutes from the main street and 2 minutes from the beach. Only gripe (and it really is tiny) if your late nighters like us, and dont always want to get up for breakfast, theres no facilities in the room to make tea or coffee.More

Very good but with some reservations
When we arrived at the Contessina we were informed that the room we had booked was not available, however, they would put us in a 'small room' overnight and then move us to an upgraded family suite with free air con for the duration of our stay. We were shown the room - small was not really the word - the door into the room was a sliding door as was the door into the bathroom, they had to be a normal opening door would not have opened into the room, the bathroom was tiny, barely enough to room to move. There was also less than a foot either side of the bed and about 3' at the foot of the bed, apart from a small fitted cupboard and dressing table that was it. The one saving grace was that it was spotlessly clean.
I am sure this is not the first time over booking has meant that someone has to use this room, the management need to address this urgently as it is not acceptable even for one night. It is also not acceptable that they should expect the receptionist to inform people their room is not ready and to show people to a room really not fit for purpose, we all know that they are on the front line maybe management should take over that role and then maybe there would be no overbooking. The following morning we went to reception and we were told our room would be ready at 11am. The room could not have been more different, spacious (2 rooms) a large bathroom and a double balcony overlooking the front of the hotel but not at all noisy. The free air con we were promised did not work we reported this to reception who sent the maintenance man to fix it, 3 days later he finally turned up and after that it worked intermittently I suppose it was not a priority as we were not paying for it.
Contrary to other reviews I think that the bar man Sot needs to be reminded that he should treat all customers equally and not ignore new customers in favour of his 'friends" (returning guests) who sat round the bar, after this happened a couple of times we chose to use the bars in the town where the staff were far more welcoming (Two Brothers and The Ark).
Another issue we had was by the pool, my husband put his shorts, top and my towel on the table only to find chlorine had been spilt on the table and not cleaned up, this bleached the items. We reported this to Marietta on reception who reported it to the management several times, we heard nothing from them but Marietta apologised profusely. Maybe they thought we were after compensation but this was not the case, we were concerned that there were several toddlers around at the time and it could have been their hands rather than our clothes which would have been an altogether more serious matter.
O.K. rant over, now for the positives and there are many. The rooms are spotlessly clean, the cleaning staff work tirelessly to keep the hotel clean, the pool is cleaned every night and sparkles. The location is perfect for the beach, restaurants and bars. The choice at breakfast is excellent and replenished regularly.
We stayed for 10 days and used the pool area on a few occasions, there was always plenty of loungers free, but mostly we went to Alexandra Beach where the hotel rented 2 loungers and an umbrella for 6 euros a day. It is about 10-15 minutes walk from the Contessina but in my opinion worth it. Marietta or Zoe on reception will be happy to give you directions.
As for Marietta and Zoe I cannot praise them highly enough, they are friendly, polite, helpful and professional. Never a day went past without a chat at reception and I think this went for most people. They are an asset to the Contessina and the management would be wise to make sure they return next season.
In conclusion the reason I have rated this hotel very good and not excellent are for the reasons at the beginning of this review. The management need to seriously address the issue of overbooking and maybe take a more hands on approach to the running of the hotel. The last thing you need when you have been travelling all day is to be unable to unpack, relax and get on with your holiday. The upgraded room was lovely but we would rather have had the room we booked from day one. I would have given the Contessina an excellent rating had it not been for that problem.
I would recommend the Contessina but would I go back? Probably not but only because we rarely go back to the same place twice. This was the second time in Zante but first in Tsilivi. I know the Contessina has a lot of returning guests and I can understand why, but for me at the moment there is a lot more of the world to see.More

We stayed here for 2 weeks back in September and had such a lovely holiday. The hotel was immaculate throughout, from the grounds to the rooms. From the moment we checked in we knew it was going to be a good hotel. The staff were so welcoming and very friendly. Sott and Andy were always ready to serve you a drink in the evening and we loved to come back to the bar at the end of the night and sit with a cocktail or one of Sott's mystery shots! You never knew what was going to be in it! And nor did he!
We had such a great holiday and are looking to book again next year!More
