Just got back after 2 weeks at White House. Arrived early afternoon and were shown to our rooms straight away, Pavlos even helped with our luggage which was a nice touch. We were then greeted warmly when we went into the bar to get a drink.
The apartments are VERY basic however they are spotlessly clean. We had 2 studios on the top floor overlooking the pool and bar which are shaded by trees, it would have been nice to be able to sit on the balcony and view the goings on instead of having to stand up and peer over branches but not a massive problem. There are 2 cooking rings, a kettle and toaster along with basic plates and cutlery etc - we only had rolls and toast so was able to prepare those with a bit of juggling due to small workspace. Rooms cleaned daily with linen changed twice a week. Only 1 towel is given per person. The shower has a hook on the wall and a curtain/shower tray - unusual for some apartments. The floor does get wet when you shower but you soon learn to wedge the curtain to stop the toilet getting soaked.
The pool area is great. We had plans to use the Alykanas Beach Hotel each day but was amazed at the quietness of the pool and how many sunbeds were free at any time, no getting up early to reserve them here. Unfortunately like all hotels in the area, anyone can use the pool so we did get people coming in with young children who screamed and shouted constantly whilst jumping in and splashing, thankfully they normally only stayed whilst the parents ate their lunch in the bar.
We were amazed at how many people stay here regularly, all of the people we spoke to were repeat visitors and we can see why as we will definitely be returning. Pavlos and Karen are great hosts and it was a pleasure to stay there.
As for Alykanas itself - still as lovely as ever. Was nice to try a few new restaurants and bars this year but did spend more time at Bonkers.More
Like Coming Home
Yet another year's holiday at the White House. When the coach pulls up outside Bonkers Bar it's just like returning to our Greek summer home. As always, Karen, Pavlos, Vicky and Demitri greeted us with real warmth, as they do all their patrons. A quick look around and we saw familiar faces, and this just continued throughout the two weeks as guests came and went.
The accommodation has been redecorated and the kitchen areas have been brought up to date since last year. The kitchen facilities are still very Greek in that care needs to be taken when using electrical items within inches of water at the sink. However, this situation is by no means restricted to Greece, it is common throughout Mediterranean countries as well.
The new building on the site has now been opened as a shop selling souvenirs, inflatables, hats etc., etc.
The pool remains the high point of the White House and was, as always, immaculately clean. Availability of sun beds and parasols is not a problem, even if you go out for the day you would be very unlucky not to be able to get a place around the pool when you get back. However, it is time now to start renewing parasols and maybe a few minutes with a drill and a split pin or bolt would stop them blowing around on breezy days.
Wifi is a problem throughout Alykanas (with one or two exceptions) and it could be very frustrating trying to actually achieve anything online. To emphasise, this is not a White House problem, it is an area problem, the system seems to be at capacity?
We have already booked for next year but were staggered to find the cost has increased by 25% in our case. On checking, it is Thomson getting the most out of one of their most successful resorts! Although it is probably sold out now for next year, at this price, Thomson need to be very careful not to drive customers elsewhere.
The White House remains one of our very favourite places, run impeccably by a wonderful family and patronized by the friendliest of people who seem to return year after year. It's a genuine gem!More

just booked again for next year
Got back from the white house studios in Alykanas 2 weeks ago. Just booked for next year, Pavlos and Karen are such a nice friendly couple, nothing is to much trouble. The beach is a three minute walk away, white sandy beach and clear sea. Alykanas is not too commercialised ,so if you want a small friendly place with quiet bars and places to eat ,this is the place for you . Shouldn't be telling you this though or we won't get booked in in 2016. Thank you Pavlos and Karen for a lovely holiday. See you next July. Stuart and KayMore

this is our fourth visit to alykanas and we have always wanted to stay here as we ate breakfast at bonkers each morning.apart from the weather which was very chilly for the time of year.may 13-20.we could not fault the place. not the largest of rooms but very clean and peaceful.the owners pavlos and karen could not make you feel more at home.they serve food from 9am till 5pm then in the evenings you are able to try out the many very good eateries.i must say its 2yrs since we last went there and was agreeably surprised that prices have not gone up at all. all in all delightful and we will be returning. ps. dont go there if you like the loud music and night life scene even though the bar is called bonkers .its very sedate. . there are only 16 apartments so if you fancy it book early.why they give it a 2 rating is beyond me deserves a 4. thank you for a nice timeMore
