Family Life Alykanas Village

With a splash park and a spot right by the beach, it’s no wonder this place is a hit with families.

This place comes with a choice of pools. One has beach views and a relaxed atmosphere, and the other is simply huge.

It’s no distance to the sandy beach – just walk past the pool and you’re there. And it’s a 5-minute walk to Alykanas’ quaint little shops and tavernas. There’s a little train close by, that’ll take you around town.

Wonderful family Holiday

We stayed at Alykanas Village Hotel in June with 2 children aged 4 & 7. Initially I was somewhat disappointed with the room we were allocated, there wasn’t much of a view and the room/ beds were open plan which made it difficult for the children to settle at night if we were still pottering around. However since we don’t spend a huge amount of time in the room, I wasn’t too bothered. Our room was a good size, there was plenty of storage space, had a fridge/kettle/ hairdryer/tv/safety deposit box supplied and was clean. Wifi was hit and miss in our room but it is fully available in the lobby and Free! The food was lovely, with lots of choice during the breakfast and dinner buffet. I consider myself a fussy eater but I managed to have something different at every sitting. You have to queue for alcoholic drinks but for juices, water, tea’s & coffees you can help yourself. There was always a table available but cutlery seemed scarce and we sometimes had to find our own. . If you’re heading out on an excursion, you can order a picnic the day before at reception and it would be ready to collect the next day at the restaurant. For lunch we tended to use the snackbar which had an ample supply of baguettes & fruit/cakes to help yourself or you could order hot food – pizzas/ chips etc. I advise ordering well in advance though as there’s usually quite a wait! You could also get ice cream between 12-4, but named brands were charged. The splash pool & slides were a huge hit with our boys and this area always had a lifeguard on duty. The other pool areas were kept clean but they could do with some more sunbeds/parasols, (although perhaps that’s a ploy to buy parasols from their on-site shop!) We didn't use the children's club during the day, but they did take part in the daily activities/games which happened at 2pm at the Snack bar. There was a different theme each day and it kept the children occupied for an hr or so. The evening entertainment was ok. It’s held outdoors with the children’s show started at 7.30 and the 'adult' entertainment started at 9.30. The children’s entertainment was very samey each night but the children enjoyed it and the entertainment team worked hard to get everyone involved. The location of the hotel is fab, it took about 40mins from the airport but you are a few minutes away from the local village and steps away from the beach. There's also plenty of excursion offices in the village which are much cheaper than the Thompson trips. We had a great deal on an Island Cruise! All in all I would definitely recommend this hotel, the only downside was having to move rooms when we extended our check-out time but we had a lovely time and will have many wonderful memories.More

Tish064,

Lovely family hotel in excellent location

This was my 3rd visit to a Greek island and a surprisingly short flight from Manchester, about 3 hrs 20 mins, most Greek islands have been longer albeit from Glasgow. Arrivals in zankythos airport was the quickest ever, security could be a bit tighter as it was 1 uninformed guy letting you through and that was you on the island! To the hotel, beautiful resort with pools a plenty, no need to reserve sunbeds as there were always some, although that was during the Scottish school holidays, we had a 2 bedroom apartment with 2 balconys, ours had a pool and slight sea view, there only seemed about 5-10 rooms overlooking the back off the hotel. The splash park was excellent and had a lifeguard! You are literally on the most beautiful beach, lots to do outside the resort, lots of restaurants, pubs, shops and walks. Locally I would recommend memories, the mill bar, for kids, bar no comment as there is a play area, the same with dilemma which had golf, trampolines and computers. If u are prone to bites, take everything u can, I still came back covered!! We had a personal issue when we were away and cannot praise the hotel staff and Thomson reps enough for their support. Food for AI was actually very good, fresh and aplenty. 1 mark down for the small and update required bathroom, the rooms would be perfect otherwise and the small drinks cups, you would need 2 to make an adult size drink, other than that please ignore the bad reviews, I don't know what people expect, this is a lovely hotel with loads to do around it in a beautiful location, if people are prepared to mark it 1 or 2 they need to start paying the money for private villas in Barbados! Thank you alykanas village xxMore

MHughes84,

A lovely resort

Ignore all the doom and gloom merchants on here. Currently in our 2nd week and loving it. Good things to note. 3 swimming pools and 1 splash park to choose from. Plethora of sunbeds and parasols every day. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Great kids clubs. Food is good and plentiful. Not out of this world but eat out like we have a few times to break things up. Walk to Alykes only takes 10 mins from the hotel so don't just venture in to Alykanas. Great restaurant near the canal on the walk to Alykes called Paradosiako. Beach is lovely. Rooms are also good in the hotel. Only downside is the All inclusive drinks. Beer is ok but cocktails out of a bottle and not great. Definitely worth a visit. Enjoy your holiday. More

Chris S,

Fantastic!! Ignore the negative comments!!

Went there last year as self catering and loved it, this year even better!! Ignore all the negatives about the food it was lovely!! A real good variation and nothing I ate was horrible If you want a traditional Greek dish go to a local restaurant and they are all priced fairly You can get a bit of a wait at the bar during the day but now more than a minute so I think all the moans are really uncalled for If you are not happy with this hotel then I think you will not be pleased with anything!! But some people just love to moan I guess! Get over it and enjoy your holiday!! Rooms all nice and we had sea view, really nice!! Don't do trips with Thomson , we used dolphin travel in the high street over half price than Thomson wanted and fantastic day out! Spent most evenings in Cuba bar as hotel nightlife was not really our scene, but again horses for courses!More

chrisdwarf,

Perfect for families

Went to this hotel with my sister for a weeks break. The hotel is a lovely hotel, the rooms could do with a bit of work doing on them, especially the bathrooms !! Very tired ! New restaurant , food very good, but be prepared for children throwing food to the floor. I wouldn't go again because it is purely for families, great if you have children, everything there. Beautiful little village to take a walk and sample a few cocktails or a nice meal. The area is beautiful and the locals so nice. Will definitely be going back there but to a hotel without kids ! Thought going whilst the kids are at school would make a difference ! Makes you realise how many people take their kids out of school. Book your trips just down the road outside the hotel !!More
