Family Life Alykanas Village

With a splash park and a spot right by the beach, it’s no wonder this place is a hit with families.

This place comes with a choice of pools. One has beach views and a relaxed atmosphere, and the other is simply huge.

It’s no distance to the sandy beach – just walk past the pool and you’re there. And it’s a 5-minute walk to Alykanas’ quaint little shops and tavernas. There’s a little train close by, that’ll take you around town.

Fantastic stay!

Just returned from a wonderful stay with friends here. We came 9 years ago and had a fantastic time and I was worried now it's all inclusive and a bit bigger it may not be as nice but I was so wrong! Cannot fault anything whatsoever - accommodation, staff, food, were all great. Our children absolutely loved it!More

Haidib,

Family holiday

Good food, brilliant sea and brilliant pools! Definitely recommended for people who like water. Not the best wifi connection though. Brilliant location and nice place for walking . Great scenery and a great water park (reviewed by jack age 9 years). More

Craig S,

Perfect location

We have just returned from a very relaxing 2 week holiday at this hotel. The negative reviews had concerned us but the hotel management seemed to have addressed most of the issues by the time we arrived. We have 2 daughters 15 and 12 who wanted to try AI much to our horror! We usually travel independently so it was a complete change for us. The hotel was very well run. All areas were clean and well maintained. There was plenty of space around the pools and the restaurant was ample size. Considering we were there in the peak season, we never felt that it was crowded. Our favourite spec for the day was next to the sea. We did have to get down there early but that was because we loved that particular spot. They renewed the sun beds round the pools whilst we were there but also kept the "old" ones. There didn't seem to be a shortage but they could perhaps do with a few more umbrellas. The accommodation was good. We had a 2 bed apartment with a sea view and it was perfect for us. The bathrooms are basic as expected and we had an issue with the water coming through the drain in the floor. We mentioned it to reception in the evening and they sorted it the next day. Generally it was very quiet in the room other than the usual noises from other guests scraping chairs, walking round the apartment but again, not unexpected in this type of accommodation. There was a bit of noise from an arguing couple but the security guy addressed that quickly. The security guy seems to walk round the grounds all night and he even asked some noisy people on the beach at night to move along, all sorted very efficiently. The food was much better than we expected. This is usually a big part of our holiday when we travel independently so we were slightly worried that AI wouldn't be enjoyable. This was not the case. At each meal, there was plenty and such a good choice. There was always a carvery in the evening and the quality here was excellent. One night they did sushi as well as all the other meals. The restaurant could get a bit messy at times but that is down to the guests not the hotel staff. Staff constantly cleared up after people had dropped food and just walked away. It was embarrassing how disrespectful some people can be. We never had a problem finding a clean table. The staff work so hard keeping on top of the used plates. If you wanted anything sorting you just had to ask but this was rarely necessary. There was always someone walking round checking if any dishes were empty, any shortage of plates/cutlery and wiping the surfaces where required. If you wanted to have more casual lunch, the snack bar was perfect. Our children ate here most days, having hot dogs, salads, chips etc. We never waited more than 15 minutes which is fine as everything is cooked to order and of a good standard. The snack bar became the Taverna at night which was a good standard. We were only surprised that more guests didn't take advantage of this. They play Greek music and serve a standard meze. It does make you feel that you're in Greece which to be honest is not the case in the main restaurant which could be anywhere. But that is an AI holiday! The reps here do a great job. There's always something to do if you want but it's not intrusive if you don't. The hangout for 12-15 yr olds is a great way to meet others and daily at 2pm was a perfect time for us. If I had to suggest an improvement here it would be to make the evening sessions more regular and enjoyable. They watched films but never finished it in one night. Once our girls had met a group of friends they met every night and mainly played table tennis or cards but I imagine it would depend on the mix of children there at any particular time for this to work. The evening entertainment wasn't our cup of tea. It seemed to be aimed at families with younger children. We tended to wander into the village or sit in the Taverna (usually empty by 9.30pm). The exception was a Monday night when they flew an act in from the uk. Both acts we saw were of a high standard but didn't seem to appeal to families with younger children. They can't possibly cater for every taste but I think they go a long way towards it. The hotel staff....they were excellent from the cleaners, bar/restaurant staff right through to the management. Sometimes in the restaurant they could have done with a few extra pairs of hands but they moved staff around to cope with any bottlenecks. They all work so hard but with a smile on their faces. Nothing is too much trouble, even when dealing with the occasional obnoxious guest who is disrespectful. We must mention Kostas in the snack bar/taverna and Odesseus.??? who works the taverna and lobby bar. They both treated us particularly well. I don't want to include negatives but if any improvements could be made it would be to empty the bins during the day- often overflowing. This is a good hotel in a great location, perfect for families. I would recommend this for an AI holiday. We won't be going back as AI is not our thing, it's killing local trade and traditions but that is aimed at Holiday companies not the hotel.More

weloveholsWirral,

Not brilliant but far from bad

Difficult to say whether I am reviewing the package or the resort. I don't read reviews just the overall ratings so when our trip to Egypt was cancelled by Thomson then this appeared the best option at short notice, albeit Thomson charged us £ 500 more than Egypt as booked last year and took advantage of free child places not available so late. Alykanas is a lovely little village and so is the very close by Alkies. I will come to the village(s) again very soon but not to Alykanas Village Life. The arrival of the first all inclusive resort in the area has ruffled a small business and many bar and taverna owners in the community are struggling as suddenly upto 700 mouths don't need feeding at peak times. This has created some animosity and in one bar a very talkative waitress suddenly noticed our bands and was suggestive holidaymakers from AVL where not welcome. I make this point as in 9 years of all inclusive holidays the food at AVL i thought was dreadful. Probably due to my pallete, but each night they produced a menu in the brand new buffet cafeteria block and each night I found it impossible to match up to the offering, also I am used to outside cooking - all they seem to do here was boil up pans of pasta or rice in the live area. Don't let comments about food put you off unless you think you are over paying for the AI. There are many many high quality taverna, all with kids menus and proper glasses for the beer and wine. The ridiculous policy of serving drinks in 200ml Plastic Water Cups does not make any sense. The plastic is flimsy, 200ml is TWO mouthfuls - so all it does is lead to people buying multiple "cups". There are few cup carriers so transporting these flimsy containers back to the tables in the evening leads to spillages. In the area by the entertainment stage it can get windy and you have to sit holding the cup to stop it blowing over. Drink singular cups except not to see much of the shows as you will be queuing for beer. Drinks selection aside from Beers is poor but more than adequate. As mentioned many times take Rigid Beaker from home - which now i recomend for all AI resorts just in case. Check in smooth, we got in block 3 in the old block- bathroom smelt - not a toilet smell a sort of stagnent water smell, 3 flushes of the of the toilet and a trickle of water from the worlds worst shower sorted that - It was clear over the week you only had to be out of the rooms for 4-5 hours and the smell returned. In the end we removed the key from the fob and left the electric on all day every day so the fan in the bathroom was on permanently other than that no qualms with the room it was all good, neat and tidy. I was a bit dubious what the house keeping did daily as other than make the beds and empty the toilet bin it seem untouched but who cares we choose to live like this on holiday. All rooms face the pool - ground floor would be best if you have children who may want to go in the pool unsupervised as you can sit and watch. Due to house martin nestings above the balcony lights they have put a wooden shelf to catch the mud whilst the nests were being constructed (you should not just clear away a housemartin nest) - problem is this impairs the light on the balcony so if the kids goto bed and you fancy a beer and nighttime read on the balcony then you have to have very good eyesight or have the curtains open and wedge up to the patio. Old block looks very dated - 2016 say the arrival of PINK block which we were told was not for brits. Certainly a far nicer area than the aged Yellow Block. Pool Bar is situated in what I assume was the old restaurant. Open from 11.00am till 6.00pm at which is turned itself into a Taverna. Good prompt service from an excellent team - served burgers, hotdogs and chips from 12.30 to 2.30 rapidly - I see someone post below about taking an hour ??? - Pools are very clean - there are 4 major ones and some smaller ones including an odd selection in the Pink Area. The sea is amazing and the resort is right on the beach. Thomson provide the entertainment staff who in my opinion for the work they do are woefully undermanned. There are just 4 - who are responsible for the daily activity schedule and evening entertainment. They get help from a couple of the guys who I was not sure what their role was. Peter sort of did some fitness stuff and ran the teen club and seemed to want to support the entertainment teams. James has been there a few weeks as a replacement for someone, one of the dancers is walking around with strapped up leg during the day - the main female performer Bianca has about 3 weeks petrol in the tank before her voice will give and probably needs a week off from singing. The scottish dancer was poorly one night which meant one performance was disrupted - what if two were poorly ? - performance cancelled. They are doing a super job but need reinforcements to continue the sterling work. Evening entertainment finishes at about 10.30 - late enough for most but if not there are two bars at the end if the drive Bonkers and Dilemma. We used the latter - they have XBox and Wii for the kids, pool tables and a free crazy golf. Despite the name its not a club and is worth a trip for a couple of hours late on on proviso your kids are in their teens. So I will go back to Alykanas but not to AVL - I will stay somewhere else and utilise the fantastic local food on offer.More

Fun at Alykanas Village

I am here with my husband and 3 children. We are loving it. I was worried like a lot of people after reading so many bad review. We are having a great time. All the pool are lovely and it doesn't seem packed. We have had all good meals in the restaurant and there is plenty of choice for the children. The sea is beautiful, calm, clear and you can walk out along way so very safe for the children. The entertainment staff are great with all the children. Are room is the only thing that lets it down slightly. The bathroom is in need of a refurb. Showering is a bit of a problem because water goes everywhere making the floors dangerous and very wet. We have a sea view so I am not complaining. I am sitting on my sun longer waiting for the sun to rise. I am looking forward to the rest of my stay here. More
