'An idyllic introduction to rural Zante, Tragaki gives you valley vistas, herb-scented hillsides and a choice of sandy beaches.'
Unspoilt and undisturbed, tiny Tragaki is a haven of tranquillity snuggled into a sea of luxuriant greenery. The silvery leaves of gnarled old olive trees provide dappled shade. Vineyards soak up the summer sun. And the scents of basil, rosemary and wild thyme are carried on the breeze. Put simply, it's gorgeous. From its elevated setting, the village gazes down on the sea and meets picturesque Kypseli eye-to-eye across the valley. So far, so fabulous. Now add a touch of history – several of Tragaki's traditional houses survived the earthquakes of the mid-1900's. And paint-in several sandy beaches – Bouka, Katragati and Amboula among them – and you begin to get the picture of a rustically rural base. There are bags of shops and eateries down the road in Tsilivi – not to mention half a mile of gently shelving sands on the clear blue bay. And the island's capital town is less than three miles away. So, while Tragaki is secluded, it certainly isn't isolated. A one-off.
