Holidays in Trypiti

When it comes to relaxing on the beach, Trypiti takes some beating. Nothing more than a tiny speck on the map, this place is home to just a few hotels and apartments buried in wooded hills along Thassos’ southwest coast.

But what makes it special is its beach. A two-kilometre stretch of sands lapped by blue-green waters, it’s hailed as one of the best on Thassos. Rocky headlands shelter the bay and shady pine trees back the sands, giving the whole area a hidden-away feel. As for what else is here, you’ll find a couple of café-bars and rows of sunloungers and parasols planted along the shore. And, since the village is off the main tourist track, everywhere stays pretty peaceful.

Away from the beach, you’ll find olive groves and craggy hills perfect for walking and exploring. In terms of shopping and nightlife, though, you’ll need to head into nearby Limenaria, which is about a half-hour walk or quick cab ride away. Its sandy beach is lined with restaurants, bars and music spots, so it’s great for lunches and nights out. Plus, you can catch a bus from here to all the main hubs on the island, including Thassos Town. Finally, if you want to cast your net wider, regular boats run from the port over to the Greek mainland.
