Villa Eden  

'Small but perfectly formed' is definitely a phrase that applies to the Hotel Villa Eden. With just 12 rooms, it's certainly petite. And, as the name suggests, its gardens are like a little slice of paradise. Cue tall trees, pretty fountains and plenty of well-tended blooms. The lawns are dotted with wooden benches and sunbeds, so you can make the most of the outdoors. And set in the middle of it all is a swimming pool bordered by a sun terrace.

The hotel itself sits firmly in the traditional camp. Outside, it's painted in the classic Mediterranean combination of peaches and cream, with lots of open stone-work on show. Inside, meanwhile, it's light, airy and uncluttered. The rooms are whitewashed with tiled floors and a few pieces of dark wood furniture complete the authentic Greek picture. They've also got a small kitchenette.

Location-wise, it's close to the centre of Thassos Town, with bars and restaurants virtually on the doorstep. There's a small sandy cove less than five minutes' walk away, and the main beach is just five minutes further on. What's more, there's a bus stop 100 metres from the hotel's door, so getting around is a doddle.
