Hotel Pegasus  

For a taste of traditional Greece you can't go wrong with the Hotel Pegasus. It's as authentic as they come. Cue whitewashed walls, terracotta roof tiles and lots of dark wood trimmings. Plus it's designed in the sugar cube shape that's the blueprint for property in this part of the world.

Inside, the decor is fuss-free. The lobby leads a double life as a restaurant and TV room, with plenty in the way of cushioned wood-frame sofas and tables dressed in crisp white linen. A Greek buffet breakfast is served here each morning.

They've kept things simple in the bedrooms, too, with tiled floors and a palette of royal blue, mint green and white. But with air-conditioning, fridges and TVs as standard, they come with all the extras you need. And, of course, each room also has a balcony.

Outside, the pool area takes centre stage. A slab of turquoise set into a terrace dotted with sunbeds and parasols, it sets the scene for relaxation. In fact, it's so laid-back here that even the pool closes at siesta time. If you don't fancy a sleep, though, you can head to the al fresco cafe bar and order a cocktail or two. It's at the front of the hotel gets quite lively come the evening.

The best thing about this hotel, though, is its location. Set in the heart of Thassos Town, it's an easy hop to the shops, restaurants and bars. Better still, it's just a five-minute walk to a golden sandy beach and the harbour.
