La Piscine Art Hotel  

You know you're on to something special when your hotel includes the word 'art'. And it doesn't take long to work out why. Not only are all the paintings and rugs here inspired by the Renaissance, they're imported from the French Academy of Fine Arts. There are plenty of antique pieces scattered about the place too, adding to the grandeur.

But don't think the La Piscine is stuffy. This intimate hotel is wonderfully laid-back. Everywhere has cool white walls, keeping everything fresh and modern, while splashes of rich red and creme-caramel give it a chic edge. Plus, there are contemporary comforts at every turn. Think big corner sofas scattered with cushions and huge wicker chairs that almost cocoon you.

It's the same story by the Olympic-size swimming pool. Not only does it have a lovely setting, with overhanging palm trees and flower beds, it's got modern rattan loungers with big, thick cushions. And there's plenty of shade provided by white linen parasols.

Dining meanwhile, happens at the a la carte restaurant - well-known for its warm hospitality. Serving traditional Greek cuisine, its open-air terrace by the pool sets the scene for romantic meals a deux. And afterwards, there are plenty of sofa-dotted spots to relax with a cocktail. The Moroccan-inspired area by the pool is a particularly good place to head with floor cushions and candles. Factor in smart bedrooms, marble bathrooms and the fact the hotel is just a minute's walk from Skiathos Town, and you've got one fully-fledged masterpiece.
