An introduction to Mitzelos Apartments

The pace of life in Skiathos is set to slow. And it's the same at the Mitzelos. Set on a beautiful green hillside in a secluded spot, it's pin-drop peaceful. You're not totally off the beaten track though. Just five miles away is Skiathos Town, so you can easily pop down to the shops, bars and restaurants. With its hilly setting, the views from here are to die for. Sweeping down into a valley and out over the sea, it's like looking at a landscape painting. Both have open-plan designs and the decor is bright and airy with whitewashed walls and cool tiled floors. Founded in 1794, the monastery of the Annunciation (Evangelistria) has served as a refuge and a source of inspiration for Skiathans throughout their sometimes turbulent history. In 1807, resistors fighting to free Greece from the Turkish yoke took their oath before the first Greek flag, with its blue background and white cross, designed and sewn here. Frescoes can be found in the sanctuary, but the real treasure is a magnificent carved wooden iconostasis. A tradition unique to Skiathos occurs on 15 August, the monastery's feast day, when the ceremony of the 'Burial of Our Lady' is performed.
