"Perissa offers up one of Santorini's best beaches. Dark sands that seem to go on and on. Crystal waters as far as the eye can see. And the Profitis Ilias mountain as a spectacular backdrop. Perissa is a holiday dream come true."
In the southern corner of Santorini you will find Perissa with its 7km stretch of shingle beach. The beaches here have excellent water sports and there is an abundance of restaurants, bars, cafes and nightclubs. Just off the coast you will be able to see an enormous rock called Mesa Vouno rising from the sea. It makes an impressive landscape, especially after nightfall when the rock is illuminated. The Byzantine church of Aghia Irini is worth visiting especially during August 29th and September 14th when festivals are held in honour of the patron saint of the island. 1km away from Perissa is the beautiful village of Emporio with its impressive traditional buildings with Cycladic-style architecture.

The beaches on the east coast of the island, where Perissa is situated, are of black sand and long, with clean water and good swimming. All types of watersports are available, as are sun loungers and parasols. The volcanic black sand gets very hot on summer afternoons, so beach footwear is recommended.
Perissa caters for every palate with everything from traditional Greek food to pizza and burgers. If you venture to one of the bigger villages you will find a selection of international restaurants including Chinese, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese.
The nightlife on the island is varied, in Fira there is a choice of bars and nightclubs. Away from the capital you will find a different approach to nightlife such as open-air cinema, displays of traditional Greek dancing and plate-smashing!
Perissa is located just nine miles from the island's capital Fira , where the shopping is fantastic. Expensive jewellery shops and boutiques are ubiquitous, however if you are searching for a more authentic shopping experience there are many small shops, selling hand crafted gifts and local produce, such as pistachios and wines.
The views from the Archaeological Museum in Fira are reason enough to visit, while the museum itself has an interesting collection, mainly Minoan artefacts from Akrotiri. Nearby is the Megaron Gyzi Museum, which is set in a 17th century mansion and houses old maps, costumes and stunning photographs of the island, in particular its capital.
