Holidays in Pastida

If you’re looking to unwind away from Rhodes’ big resorts, Pastida could be just the place. Tucked inland from Rhodes Town and surrounded by orange and olive groves, it’s a little village that keeps itself to itself, content to let life tick by pretty much as it’s always done.

The place is a maze of whitewashed cottages and modern buildings, sprinkled below 267-metre high Mount Filerimos. The side roads play host to some shops and mini-markets, but the hub is the village’s pedestrianised square. With an ancient spring in the middle, it’s a pleasant spot lined with tavernas that serve up favourites like Greek coffees, meze and gyros. Come evening, the pace picks up a little, as the tavernas light up and some music bars hit their stride.

Another great thing about Pastida is its wider location. While the village itself is really peaceful, it’s handy for the beaches of the north coast. The pebble stretches and watersports at Kremasti and Trianda are just five-minute bus or cab rides away, so it’s easy to hit the surf. Plus, Rhodes Town, with its medieval palaces, shopping streets and nightlife, is just 15 minutes away.
