Good but could do lots better and 100 % not 5 star

Booked this hotel a year ago so really looked forward to it, lots of great points but also some really negative points. This review is only based on our experience but is honest and frank. Arrived at approx 12am ( 18th October) - a family of two adults and two children aged 5 and 2. First impression not great. Nobody to greet us, no welcome drink (which we expected as read so many trip advisor Reviews saying you are welcomed with a drink and food in restaurant). We were not informed about this. Had to ask how to get to our room and eventually a porter arrived and took us in a golf buggy. ( He was very helpful). The main rep was at reception but did not speak to us or welcome us. In our room there were drinks in the fridge - no alcohol, unlike what others received. The room was very spacious but pretty dated for a "5 star". Bathroom was not that clean, a lot of scum round the tap and drains. Door wouldn't shut in the shower so floor in bathroom got totally soaked and kids kept falling on the tiles. Good point was the view, totally stunning looking onto the mountain and sea, really breathtaking. First morning impressions were much better, breakfast was amazing, so much to choose from. We have only done all inclusive once before the Sussesi in a Turkey, which was unbelievable and this was pretty much on a par. Dinner was also great, full of variety, the kids corner was also great, their own tables, food area and television. We were not told about this though and only found it on the 4th night ( we were not the only ones either, some didn't even know it was there until the end). Snack bar was great, plenty of choice. White wine was ok, red wine was awful! Cocktails were ok but drinking from a paper cup ruined them. Swimming pools and water park were amazing but so cold, made it unbearable for most, our two year old turned purple after half an hour. We are not beach people but actually really liked it, was quite rugged but full of character and lots of pebbles to collect. The professional acts were excellent, especially the Beatles, lots of people up dancing and genuinely enjoying it, the kids disco was also good, my two had a blast, the characters trolly and Thomson were very popular. The entertainment team tried their best ( I think?) but were really only geared for the kids. We found it quite painful at times. Pool bar Seva was amazing, always fool of cheer, as were Terry and Nicosse, really deserve praise. There are podium steps for kids to climb up and order their own cocktails and ice cream, which my two loved and really abused but these guys had so much patience. Lastly the kids reps... Our son ( 2) went to the crèche and our daughter (5) loved the kids club. Hannah stood out along with Emma. They had so much time for my children and were so genuine, going well beyond what was expected of them. I honestly can not praise them enough. Kissing and cuddling the kids right off to the end and waving us off on the bus. Lastly my only other comment - I really would not recommend going on holiday here on the last week of the season, we noticed a huge difference from our first week to the last, standards massively slipped - with exception to the people named above. I would recommend to those looking for a good 4 star with great facilities for kids.More

Lovely, however doesn't accomodate for bad weather

I visited here in May with a friend and unfortunately the weather was terrible. Due to the wind and rain, most of the evening outside entertainment was cancelled and therefore the reception/bar area inside was full of the residents/lots of unsettled children running around... it was very noisy most the time and very relaxing. The hotel cannot be blamed for the weather, however a contingency is required in respect of an area for indoor entertainment. Restaurant lovely. Food choice was amazing!!!More

October break

We travelled to the Atantica Aegean blue as a family of 2 adults a 16 year old and 12 year old. Very rarely do we comment on holidays or weekends, but as we do use trip advisor a lot we all felt that we should comment on our stay. We booked with Thompson Holidays and had no problems at all with them overall very good. We chose the Atlantica Club Aegean Blue primarily because it had very good reviews made by others and offered all we were looking for. Our first impressions were very good as we arrived very late the staff were excellent, with a small buffet made available to us all and complimentary drinks placed in our room fridge. Our overall impression of the hotel was excellent, the staff are the friendliest we have ever experienced and very attentive nothing is to much trouble for them, they go out of their way to help. The food is excellent with a huge variety, the drinks are good although we stayed away from the cocktails as we could not work out what they were, the wine, beer, and spirits are fine. Hotel is kept very clean and tidy with rooms cleaned daily The hotel has a fantastic water park and swimming pool.More

Atlantica Aegean Blue October 2014

Just back from two week holiday with our 8 year old son . Had been in Rhodes in 2012 and had passed resort on a boat trip and thought how amazing Kolymbia looked. The Hotel room was a nice size and very clean and the cleaner was extremely pleasant. The hotel food in main Restaurant was the best we have ever had in many years travelling with Thomson with a large selection. My wife is vegetarian and usually struggles but generally had a good selection to pick from. The snack bar was also very good with a large selection of food, ice cream, fresh fruit etc. There was also two a la carte places you could use but you needed to book. We found the best time to eat was either early or late otherwise it was pandemonium with people having no respect for others. The waterpark was very good and was rarely overly busy and our son loved it. The pool area was very good and very safe for our son with various areas with different depths of water with none too deep.. There was a large grass area with plenty sunbeds if you do not fancy the pool surrounding area. There was a beach but it very quickly went from shallow to deep which was not really for younger kids. The evening entertainment was not the best but the entertainment team worked extremely hard. The biggest disappointment for us was the drink. Not so much the plastic glasses or paper cups but the quality of drinks. We do not drink a lot on holiday but like a beer or glass of wine at night but they were really poor. The soft drink quality was also very poor and had little or no taste. This was fine during the hot days when you are looking for something cold and wet to drench your thirst. We ended up buying bottles of juice to sit at the evening entertainment. Our son loved the daytime entertainment with water polo, table tennis and football some of the activities for kids with Zumba and aqua aerobics for adults. We had a situation where our son was being bullied by older boys and the Thomson reps handled it professionally and quickly. Our son loves the kids club and attends a lot of sessions which were plentiful and well organised. There were some sessions where you had to pay but they were well worth the money and kids were fed. The Thomson reps were again as always amazing and our son did not want to come home. The hotel staff were extremely friendly, professional and did a fantastic job. Overall we would love to return to the Hotel as it was a fantastic holiday but the standard of drinks would put us off. This was the general opinion of many we spoke to.More
