Great beaches, 24-hour nightlife and must-see Greek ruins.
Megawatt sunshine meets ancient history – possibly with a few foam parties thrown in – on a cheap holiday to Rhodes...
From the tranquillity of Kolymbia to party-central Faliraki, this island serves up great holidays, whatever your budget.
When you book a cheap holiday to Rhodes you’ll save money on flights and accommodation. How you spend your time, however, is up to you...
Lots and lots of beaches
Rhodes has around 200 kilometres of coastline, so there’s always plenty of fantastic beaches to try out. Lindos is popular with families, with gently-shelving sand that’s really safe for kids. Faliraki’s lively beach is flanked by bars and restaurants, and the watersports are first-rate. There’s even a bungee jump if you’re up for it.
Ancient Rhodes Town
Rhodes Town’s star attraction is the Medieval citadel, which dates from the 1300s. The rugged walls and battlements were built by the Knights of St John, who left their stamp all over the island. On Orffeos Street and Socrates Street, there’s also the chance to shop for souvenirs and crafty things like leather belts and purses.
Landmarks and ruins
Keep an eye out for the Mosque of Suleiman the Magnificent in Rhodes Town. The crescent-topped domed roof of this 16th-century mosque is one of the island’s top landmarks. Visit Lindos and you’ll see Acropolis ruins. The Temple of Athena here was built in the 4th century BC – Alexander the Great and Helen of Troy used to rub shoulders here.
The Butterfly Valley of Petaloudes
For picturesque countryside, head to the Butterfly Valley of Petaloudes. The valley is home to thousands of migrating Panaxia butterflies who come here every year to mate. The stream that runs through the valley is criss-crossed by pretty bridges, and you can follow the trail to the Monastery of the Virgin of Kalopretra.
Ramped-up Faliraki nightlife
If you’re into clubbing, no trip to Rhodes will be complete without a night out in Faliraki. Sip a Faliraki Fishbowl – a gigantic cocktail – on Bar Street, with the soundtrack provided by big name DJs such as EZ. King Arthur’s Bar is the top spot for live music, and if you’re lucky, you’ll catch a performance from the resident hypnotist.
